I value the so-called dates books as they act as historical texts. On this score, some fuss pot actually complained about Gardner's "Witchcraft Today". How does one know where s/he is going on such a vehicle when they don't know where it's been? As for being written decades prior to progressive and "wokism", I say, "Thank the Gods!" But, this material * was* progressive for its day. I suppose what it comes down to is that this was my era, therefore, the root of my appreciation and worldview.
First of all, there is nothing wrong with the title of this book. To claim otherwise--and to give the book a poor review for it--is both ignorant and unfair. There is more than one definition of the word "bible." Bible (n): 4. (lowercase) any book, reference work, periodical, etc., accepted as authoritative, informative, or reliable: "He regarded that particular bird book as the birdwatchers' bible." So, yes. Witches DO have bibles. I'd also consider Uncle Bucky's Big Blue Book ( Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft (Llewellyn's Practical Magick) ) to be a witches' bible.
Now, to get past the cover and into the contents of the book: Are the contents outdated? Absolutely. Are they worth knowing, anyway? Absolutely. Wicca is a living religion, and it has evolved beyond what was taught and practiced in its early years, even if those "early years" were only 60 or so years ago. For it to continue to grow and change, its practitioners must first know their own past. Aside from that, the book is a valuable reference. Sometimes you WANT a ritual to feel old-fashioned and extremely formal. Sometimes you want to do things strictly by-the-book. This book gives you the tools to do that.
Will I use any or all of the considerable material in this book? Probably not. However, I have the information available to me, in case I ever find myself needing it. I would recommend this book to any other student of Wicca for the same reason.
This book so far has everything n more. If I understand, the author runs a coven n his trials, tribulations, n suggestions r the Best. I did not expect to like the book. My "soul" freaked a bit at the black cover ... I prefer to stay away from the Dark Side, has no appeal for me... But I got good vibes from the intro page onward. Truth n honesty n an innocent portrayal of the origins of religion, Wicca, and the Green religions are what lay ahead when you read this time ... You should love it. I recommend it highly to anyone with open mind n the desire to get back to what religion REALLY felt like before it got absorbed by mainstream commercialized religion. Feel what it was like to be in close proximity to the Creator Him/Her self in a time when u could witness firsthand the results of your prayers, in real time. Delivery was perfectly on time, and even though it claimed to be used it looks brand new to me. Very pleased I am.
