Witches' Brew: Landover, Book 5 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

An acorn falls far from the tree

Former Chicago lawyer Ben Holiday was very proud and quite happy. And why shouldn’t he be? The Magic Kingdom which he ruled as High Lord was finally at peace. He was free to lie back and watch as his new daughter grew.

And grow she did - by leaps and bounds, shooting through infancy in a matter of months. She took her first steps and learned to swim in the same week. An amalgam of magic and heredity, Mistaya was born a seedling, nourished by soils from Landover, Earth, and the fairy mists, come into being in the dank, misty deadness of the Deep Fell. She was as lovely as her mother, the sylph Willow, with dazzling green eyes that cut to the soul. Ben wished he could enjoy his daughter's childhood and his happy kingdom forever.

Alas, those idyllic days were not to last. For Rydall, king of lands beyond the fairy mist, rode up to the gates of Sterling Silver and shattered peace of Landover. His armies were poised on the border, ready to invade unless Ben accepted a challenge: Rydall would send seven champions to face Ben, each in a different form. If Ben triumphed over all seven, Rydall would then abandon his claims to the kingdom.

Some counseled the High Lord to refuse Rydall's challenge, but Holiday could not, for Mistaya had been snatched from her guardians by foul magic. And Rydall held the key to her fate....

"All of my questions will be answered soon!" is what I thought to myself when I was about 3/4 of the way through "The Tangle Box", 4th book in the Kingdom of Landover series. I soon realized that I was mistaken, and it was not the final book. Oops! What was I thinking!?!
I scrambled to purchase the final book.."Witches Brew". I am happy to say that the level of action and mystery in this 5th and final installment has made the wait well worth it!

I bought this book to replace the paperback version and complete my set in this series. This is absolutely my favorite book series. I have read it many times. I have also read Brooks' Shanara series, but it is more complicated (in the order of Lord of the Rings) and therefore harder to follow and remember all the characters. Brooks is an excellent fantasy writer (even if it seems he borrows heavily from Tolkien!)This series takes place in modern times-- now-- instead of an unknown ancient or future time. I have always wanted to go to Virginia to try to find the place where you cross over into Landover..... ;-)

Just like I remembered as a child. Glad to find the entire 6 book series on Amazon. Buy them all! You will be transported to a magical world with dragons, wizards and castles.

The Landover Series, as with all Mr. Brooks' works, begs one more novel! I read the Shanara books years ago and find myself anxious to revisit them once again! There is no question as to why he has won so many awards and accolades!
My challenge to you is to be able to read the first book of ANY of his series' and then quit there. Good luck with that!!

I'm a big Terry Brooks fan and I really enjoyed reading this book. The concept behind the Landover series is great!

A great book. The 5th book in the Landover series. This book was missing some characters that I loved in the previous books but the emotions the this book evoked were amazing. I tore right through it. I dove into the 6th book as soon as I finished.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book in the world of magic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 15, 2005
As with the previous books in the Landover series, I thoroughly enjoyed Witches' Brew. This time the book has an unexpected twist towards the end.
With peace reigning in the Magic Kingdom at last, Ben Holiday was finally free to lie back and watch his daughter grow. Which she did - by leaps and bounds. Born a seedling and nourished by soil from Landover, Earth and the fairy mists, Mistaya was a unique child, as dazzling as her mother, the sylph Willow, and fiery and impatient with those who couldn't keep up with her lightning fast development. But Ben's idyll was not to last. The dark and pitiless Rydall, king of lands beyond the fairy mists, was at the gates of Sterling Silver. His armies ready to invade if Ben would not accept his challenge to face and defeat seven different champions of Rydall's choice. And accept he must, for Mistaya had been snatched from her guardians by foul magic and only Rydall had the key to her fate.
