The thing that caught my interest was bringing together a blind witch, a playful sea otter shifter and a surfer running from his heritage, although admittedly it was the sea otter that grabbed me the hardest. I've peeked at the blurbs for the previous books, so I know this isn't the only time she's pulled out the unexpected for shifters.
Our heroine is a blind witch who is also a powerful seer. The problem? Meaghan's been held captive most of her life and used for her visions. She is about to put her foot down after learning the Agency wants to use her visions to capture the "child of five bloods" for their own less than honorable purposes. Her solution is to escape and die, but that doesn't turn out quite the way she anticipated. Instead, she is saved by an otter and taken to safety to the Donovan's where an entirely new world is opened to her. (Cue dramatic music and evil doers.)
A failed suicide attempt (to protect the innocent), a playful otter (who'd rather be a doctor) and a surfer (afraid to answer the call of his heritage) make for an interesting story. What I know of otters is very limited, mostly to how playful they are. She managed to convey otter characteristics very well.Read more ›
A fast pace and smooth flowing plot keeps readers shivering in anticipation with suspense, excitement and romance. The author brings her story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated suspense and fascinating world draws the reader deeper into the story while the strong compelling characters grab the readers attention and ensure that the reader keeps coming back for more.
Kyle and Deck has been attracted to each other for a while but things hadn’t really come together for them, but when Meaghan’s attraction is added to theirs their passions and their magics collide in a fiery inferno of passion, but of course this in no way ensures that the relationship is all rainbows. The reader can’t help but get caught up in this threesomes emotional story as well as their romance as all three have some issues that need to be healed and of course they have a lot going on outside of the romance that hinders in some ways but makes them stronger in others.
There is never a dull moment in this story as spine tingling tensions build throughout as the danger escalates from the enemy while magical battles add lots of excitement to the story. I was completely caught up in the story from the very beginning and I have to say that I found the world very interesting with some intriguing and fascinating characters. Obviously, I haven’t read the previous books in the series but it didn’t stop me from enjoying this one although I did feel as if I missing the other characters stories and some information on what lead to the Agency being an enemy, so I will have to remedy that soon.
4 ½ STARS
In truth, at the beginning I only liked the scenes that Meaghan was in because everything else seemed to be dragging a bit. As the novel progresses I liked how the plot sped up and the interaction between Kyle, Deck, & Meaghan turned into something that I couldn't stop reading about. Together they make a wonderful combo that balances each other out in ways that where surprising and fun.
In addition, one thing that I loved about this novel was it's main characters' unique abilities! With Deck's massive supply of power yet needing to still maintain enough control as to not kill anyone; to Meaghan's foresight and her growing into the abilities that are no longer dormant; to finding out about Kyle being an otter shifter along with what that means and being both a dom and sub in the bedroom (depending on who he's playing with); it was all very exciting getting to know them!
This novel definitely hooked me for this series, I'm curious to see where it will all go next. I recommend this novel and series to those who like paranormal romances, don't mind reading about light bdsm, and are fans of m/f/m romances too!
