Beyond that it's an adorable coming of age story where romance is the last thing you see. I kind of wish it has more in the way of mates but maybe in the next books.
Perfect for lovers of fantasy, witches , and all manner of creatures.
I cant read leisurely with this author! There is so much excitement, so many questions to be answered - i just devour her books. When I'm not reading, I can't take my eyes off of my kindle. I need to get back to the world that B. Kristin McMichael has created. This was book #9 and I am not slowing down!
This was a very well placed story, it kept me guessing and had surprises at every step.
I already have the next two books of the trilogy bought and they await me! It is midnight here - time for the magic to start!

Upon reading the blurb I wanted to read it more and am glad I have finally gotten round to reading it.
I love that the novice witches (kids) have to learn the craft (at school) and then apprentice before becoming fully fledged, it gave a different and enjoyable style that I really enjoyed. (I would have chosen a witch school if I could lol) The characters have been very well thought out in this book and the different species (not sure that is the word I want to use but nothing else coming forth). There is so much I could write here but I do not want to ruin it for you.
Cassie is a strong willed teenager and desperately wants to become a witchling apprentice in order to become a coven member but she has to perform a test in front of other students and teachers, that would so put me off. Cassie does not fully realise the consequences of passing this test and the lengths that others will go to, to try and take her power. Is she ready for this!! I do love Cassie's character, she won't stop till she gets answers. I'm with you all the way girl, oh and thank goodness we got to meet Maria, I thought she would not show in this book. I look forward to watching Cassie grow into her powers and what Maria can do to help with the Nate problem.
Nate, a popular teenager and one who changes girlfriends like the weather changes, once a great friend with Cassie (till he ditched their trio), is to become the next alpha in his clan. He has the authority over all other clan members his age and can command that they obey what he says. He is a likable character but you really get to liking him later in the book when he decides to start helping rather than being a potential obstacle. Will he be able to convince Cassie that they are a good fit.
I really do not think there was anything that I did not like about the book. Oh yeah hang on, there was, IT ENDED.
Note to Author B. Kristen McMichael: Thank you, this was a refreshing take on witches and shifters, I thoroughly enjoyed every second I read. My dogs were not happy when I got to the last page as shouting out "no no no you can't end it now" kind of woke them and they all started barking, (there are seven of them). I have pre-ordered book 2 and am now waiting impatiently :-). Thank you again and please keep writing. x
If you like witches and shifters this is so a book for you without a doubt. This is an awesome read and had me glued (I did have to sleep in between reading shifts lol but read in just over 24 hours it is that good).
The Witchling Apprentice (Skinwalkers Witchling Book 1)
I enjoyed the characters and story, especially being a story line I haven't experienced yet.
Unfortunately it did cause me a problem: lack of sleep as I was up until 5am to finish it off as I just didn't want to put it down.
I liked that all the clan was different as usually with the pack/clan stories they are all the same.
I did think the seer 'secret' was a little rushed at the end, but apart from that a good read.
One pet peeve that I see in many books dealing with shape-shifters... Animal knees do NOT bend backwards from human knees. All birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians have joints that bend the same way as ours do! What writers seems to think is backwards bending knees is the animal's heel, the knee can be found in the meatier part higher up the leg and closer to the body than ours. Just saying...
