"Lady Sable Aradia has provided a succinct, applicable and integrative guide for 'walking the 8-fold path with practical feet'. In this book, this much beloved and respected core Wiccan teaching is fleshed out and given muscle; so that all witches can hone their intent and refine their magic." --Orion Foxwood, author of The Candle and the Crossroads and The Tree of Enchantment
"Lady Sable demystifies the Eightfold path of Witchcraft, providing powerful doorways to magical awareness using time-honored methods adapted for today's modern Witch. Witches have long used the Eight paths of power to part the veil between the worlds and, through this book, Lady Sable has opened those paths anew that we may draw wisdom from the well-trod path." --Christian Day, author of The Witches' Book of the Dead

The one exception I found was Breath Control, which is fundamental but can be dangerous and must be taught by either a Wiccan or a Yoga instructor.
There is so much to like about this book. The first thing that comes to mind is simply what a surprise it is. The first part of the book will present a lot of basics that might tempt an experience Crafter to lay the book down. Don't do it. The author approaches foundations with a nice fresh perspective and I really did enjoy hearing about it from another perspective. Plus, I think we witches are often keen on skipping past foundations, forgetting that they are the core of our work and that nothing can proceed without experiencing them first. Read on.
The later chapters really are remarkable as the author presents methods of power raising and trance induction in a clear and practical way, yet with the depth of someone who has clearly been practicing and mastering them for many years. It comes off clearly in her writing that Aradia has done this work and has formulated an effective way to communicate the processes.
One of the biggest things I was impressed with was that she does not shy away from drug and alcohol intoxicants as a method of trance induction. Indeed she even gives her own experience with them! She pairs the appropriate warnings, but also points out how important they are in the history of this work.
I also want to point out that as an LGBTQ activist, I am very impressed with Aradia's consistency with pointing out how queer women and men can access power, outside of what is commonly thought to be a heteronormative Gardnerian theology. And beyond that, she even calls out transgender women and men and how they have every right to equally access these mysteries. I found myself cheering that those sections and in a Pagan world where our community is dealing with some highly transphobic "old school" "leaders", this visibility of trans people is very important. Bravo!
In short, I will be re-reading this book in the future and recommending it to my students.
