This is what young people (it works for older people too)should be reading, a story with romance and action but one that makes sense even if it is set in a make-believe world. Callie and Nicholas are in love. Is it believable? Yes because of the development of the plot which obviously has been given quite some thought to keep it real despite the fantasy element. I am hooked and sad I have to wait a few more weeks till the next book as my finances are stretched enough. Kindle has taken over my life but it is so worth when you finish something so beautiful.
I can't believe I got this one free but there is no doubt I will be reading the next two books!
I thought a few of the sentences could have used some restructuring to be worded better, but this was not a big enough annoyance to cause any interruption in reading. The author used some unique phrases such as ice-green. I had never heard that before and although I knew what she meant, I couldn't help but think that it took me out of the story for a second. If the ice is green is it time to change the filter? Either way, for the most part this book was stellar. I loved the main character's reaction to seeing the ocean for the first time. I could imagine her entering her new world filled with fascination and butterflies in her stomach.
One of the other things I loved about this book was the description of the new kids She meets when she goes to school. The author really nailed what it is like to be the new kid, which I was many times when I was younger. I value that this author put a range of emotions in her characters rather than just the cookie cutter combos we tend to see in a lot of YA novels.
From the beginning to the end, this book has a slightly Gothic feel and I thought it added to the plot and premise of the book. You could tell even early in the book that the author was setting up for something great and she delivered. I liked this book and think this is going to be a great series. Congratulations to the author for her admirable talent.
I had a number of moments where I flashed back to The Craft and The Secret Circle. Only difference is here (so far at least) there's only 3 witches, but they're still all teenage girls.
One thing I do like about Witchy, Witchy (though at the same time makes it too YA for my tastes) is these girls deal with normal, every day, teenage girl problems. Not all of their problems are magical, and they don't try to use their magic to solve those problems, either. What a relief!
I thing Penelope King has taken a much more realistic approach to the world of witchcraft in fiction than I've seen to date. Real people mean real problems, whereas magic has its own set of problems, and, occasionally, the two will overlap and, well, that's when crap hits the fan.
I may continue to read on just because there are obviously a number of years ahead of these girls and I hope to see the books grow with them.
Calista the main character with which this story revolves around is charming and a character that can't help but fall in love with.... Then she further amazes us the readers with the cast of characters that surround Calista to make this an epic story and beginning to the series that I feel will stand the test of time...
I encourage anyone that loves the action of a great movie with the side order of "Charmed", Witches and Warlocks and Hunters will truly absorb and love this first installment of "Author Penelope King's" (Spellbound Series)....
Charming, gritty and romantic as well.... A smorgasbord of literary brilliance and A Must Read!!! I have already started Book #2 "Kiss the Crystal Sun" of the "Spellbound Series" and I can truly say that you will not be disappointed. I know that I'm not, sonrisa....
