Top customer reviews
Individually the books range from 4 to 5 stars in my opinion. Collectively, with the cost savings? Gotta give it that 5th star.
Since they're stand-alone books the following is my book-by-book review.
Book 1: Wizard in a Witchy World
Ok, first of all it's about darn time we get an urban fantasy world where the witches are on top! Just sayin'
Leaving that aside, this is a start of what I suspect is going to be a fun series. The characters are interesting and work well together and the writing is strong, as is the usual for this author. I fully expect to enjoy this book series.
Book 2: Wicked Folk
Jamie McFarlane was already one of my favorite authors because of his Privateer Tales sci fi series. But it's not every author who can do fantasy as well as sci fi so, while hopeful, I wasn't sure what I'd get. There was no need to be concerned. I'm now two books into this new series and can now rest comfortably that this is one of the authors who great in both genres. Wicked Folk is another gritty, realistic, urban fantasy. Once again the writing is superb and the plot a true blast. Go for it is the advice I can say.
Book 3: Wizard Unleashed
I almost never give out five stars, but this series has just gotten too good, and I have really run out of anything reasonable to criticise about this book. Jamie McFarlane has created a wonderful world for his characters to live and interact in. Those characters in turn are real. The have flaws but they learn to deal with them. They continue to grow - even here in this book after all the development so far in the prior stories. The plot in Wizard Unleashed, the magic, the adventure in all its layers just works beautifully. I'm not going to summarize this story as I don't want to do anything to spoil it, but it's really gooood.
Highly recommended, though I strongly urge anyone new to this series to start with the excellent book 1. Trust me, the trip will be worth it.
