Within Temptation is a taut, intelligent, polished romantic suspense. And with a beautiful balance between a murder mystery, family secrets, and a budding romance between two childhood friends…As a romantic suspense this is impressive. As a debut it's amazing. Put this one on your TBR. Highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense/mysteries and contemporary romance. (4 1/2 stars) -- Jill's Reviews
This was a well-paced suspense novel with a little angsty romance thrown in. It is well written and keeps you turning the pages. Just enough information is doled out to keep the reader on the edge of her seat surmising and rethinking 'whodunnit';. I love a mystery that actually surprises me at the end without leaving me thinking that there was too much of a leap and too few clues to lead to that conclusion. Do you love small town drama? Do you love a good mystery? Do you love a good romance with a HEA? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this book is for you! -- Julie (4 stars),Nerd Girl Reviews
I was hooked from the first page of the book to the last page of the book and even then I wanted more...The twists, turns and storyline went in directions that the reader couldn't imagine and that made the book even better, there are not too many books that leave a reader unable to predict what is going to happen next, I truly appreciate a book that can do this for me. Pick this one up soon, as I am sure it won't disappoint or leave you scratching your head over what was going on. Enjoy this read, as I know that I did. -- Stephenee (5 stars),Nerd Girl Reviews
The author does a really good job of taking what I perceived to an impossible situation for this couple to overcome realistically, and make the outcome believable. Definitely not an easy task. The mixing points of view actually work really well to build the story which is definitely not an easy task to accomplish and I would never have pegged this as a debut novel had I not known. A fantastic blend of steamy and suspense. -- Melanie (4 stars) ,Nerd Girl Reviews
THIS IS A DEBUT? INCREDIBLE. I LOVED THIS. It was the best RS I've read to date. It had me hanging on every word, breath, shadow...looking for an answer to solve the ridiculously good and absorbing mystery of a wrongfully accused man and a woman viciously murdered at his supposed hands…This book had everything and the sexy time was done right. I don't like multiple pages of sex where the scenes become more about endurance and shock value than good ole' fashioned sensuality. TH writes her sexy time with a fierce and focused rawness. It reminded me of Linda Howard where the sexy time makes a much larger impact because of the way it's written not how long it is. Tons of sexual tension...lots, I loved that build up. Trace Dawson was sent to jail twelve years ago, for a murder he didn’t commit. When released from prison, Trace just wants to move on with his life. But can small town USA let him………I’m from small town USA – so that’s a no. That is not a spoiler, that is common sense.
Shannon Bradford feels compelled to find out what really happened between her mother and childhood friend that night. No matter how much Trace pushes her away, Shannon won’t give up. Knowing Trace probably harbors resentment for her part in his arrest. he isn’t really pushy, she just needs to know. I think we can all relate in some small way to the desire, the all-consuming need to know the truth.
Trace. Oh Trace you are such an awesome hero! And hot to ^^ yeah? Anyhoo, why is Trace great? Well, definitely bitter about his imprisonment – rightfully so don’t ya think? – he never crosses the line to douches-baggery. His feelings and actions are always understandable. More importantly, he is believable. Trace’s thoughts, emotions, and actions are realistic – not over-the-top – an endear the reader to him.
Shannon is a great counter part for Trace. The obstacles she faces are awful and her connection to Trace is, well, complicated. Shannon, while a bit naïve and inexperienced, is a strong woman. She knows something is wrong and does everything in her power to get to the truth and fix what she can.
The supporting characters are just as well written – leaving your skin crawling, your heart breaking, and your mind reeling.

Trace is wrongfully convicted for a murder he didn't commit. Twelve years later he's released and the first person he sees is Shannon, the daughter of the lady murdered. Part of Shannon's testimony is why he was found guilty, but she was only fourteen at the time and he eighteen. The town's people are giving Trace a hard time, but Shannon takes up for him. She's from money and her family has pull, so of course rumors start. But Shannon has started remembering things from her past and realizes something's not right. She works to persuade Trace into helping her find out what really happened.
Shannon was in love with Trace when they were kids, and even though there was an age difference, he cared for her as well. The chemistry between these two now is undeniable. But the problem is, Shannon is engaged, and although he's older and always gone, Shannon thinks she loves him.
As Trace and Shannon look for the truth, their feelings become stronger. But will Shannon break things off with her fiance for the guy convicted of her mom's murder? Will they discover who the real murderer is? What other secrets are being hidden? This book will keep you guessing and will surprise you.
Really great book.
Imagine a modern retelling of Sleeping Beauty set in small-town Temptation, West Virginia, complete with a Mrs Robinson-esque momma to rival Maleficent herself.
But this is no Disney fairytale. Prince Charming (Tattooed ex-con Trace) and Aurora (Shannon - good natured, beautiful and filthy rich – think Cher from Clueless) have more in common with Heathcliff and Catherine in their tragic, star-crossed passion.
Throw in a smattering of ‘Dirty Dancing’, roll it in a little ‘Murder she wrote’ mystery, and family drama to rival ‘Dallas’ at its peak. Season with the grittiness of ‘Banshee,’ play it all to the tune of ‘Uptown Girl,’ and ride it on home to the inevitable HEA on the back of a Harley ... and you get some idea of what you’re getting into.
There is an element of cheating (the heroine is engaged, not to the hero) so be warned if this is a no-go area for you.
Yes, the characters and scenarios veer into cliché at times, but this book was a pleasure to read. Well paced, lovely writing style, twisty plot kept me turning pages, and excellent character development and descriptions to boot. What’s not to love? Go read it.
