Only two of the stories here are from worlds in which he has written extensively - the Cassie Zukav stories and the Dragon Precinct world. The rest are from a variety of worlds. There's vampires, elves, lampreys, clowns...er, yes, clowns. There's also a charming story about a cat and a dog, which ended up being my favorite in this collection. As much as I enjoyed the realism of "Editorial Interference," the grittiness of "-30-," and the space drama of "The Stone of the First High Pontiff," my favorite was "Sunday in the Park with Spot." A handful of talking animals go a long way to making me smile.
This book is an excellent jumping off point for other adventures, too. Because many of these were originally published elsewhere (I think a few were written new for the collection), you can use the notes after the title page to seek out stories along similar lines. I really enjoyed "The Ballad of Big Charlie," and it makes me want to track down the rest of the V-WARS stories. I love when a book prompts me to try other books!
What's perhaps most enjoyable, though, is seeing the author play in his own sandbox. The things you can do when you're not beholden to license holders are pretty darn awesome.
