It's very cute, well made, and has been working without problems for almost six months (she has taken good care of it).
The bow tie pendulum is very creative and cute, and we also like the sound better than our electronic metronomes. I was hoping that the swinging action would help visual time better than the discrete beeps of an electronic metronome, but the jury's still out on that.
A couple things to note: the mechanism itself is a bit smaller than an equivalent non-animal metronome, so it's missing a few of the marked settings (like 52 bpm) that a similarly sized traditional style mechanical metronome has.
And, yes, obviously it's a bit of an extravagance compared to a smart phone app or a cheap metronome, and has fewer features. But, on the other hand, there's no smart phone to distract from practicing, and we prefer the simplicity.
This is a great quality, sturdy and beautiful German-made metronome that will last many years. Just make sure your child doesn't play with the bow - it is an important piece.

thank you
Personally, tapping sound of mechanical metronome is better than beeping since it's hard to hear beeps while playing the piano. Plus, to have the visually moving pendulum is very helpful for beginners. So, bye-bye metronome apps.
