Wizard at Large (Magic Kingdom of Landover series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 730 ratings

Book Three of the Magic Kingdom of Landover Series

It all began when the half-able wizard Questor Thews announced that finally he could restore the Court Scribe Abernathy to human form. It was his spell that had turned Abernathy into a Wheaten Terrier—though with hands and able to talk.

All went well—until the wizard breathed the magic dust of his spell and suddenly sneezed. Then, where Abernathy had stood, there was only a bottle containing a particularly evil imp. It had been in the collection of Michael Ard Rhi, former King of Landover, now exiled to Earth. Abernathy must now be a part of that collection!

High Lord Ben Holiday set forth for Earth, taking his green but beautiful love, Willow, with him. Unfortunately, they were long in returning. And without the soil in which to root as a tree at times, Willow could not long survive.

That left it up to Questor Thews to save them. Grimly he set out to seek help, knowing himself to be incompetent. And to make things worse, the imp had escaped and sought the help of the evil witch Nightshade, now back from exile in Faerie.

Questor's only idea seemed impossible, but . . .

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

A spell to restore the Court Scribe of Landover to human form backfires, and Landover's King embarks on a quest to his native world to rescue his friend and retrieve the medallion of Kingship from the clutches of a greedy wizard. Humor abounds in this engaging fantasy as Brooks continues the adventures of King Ben, Questor Thews, Abernathy, and their companions. Recommended where the series is popular. JC

I have been meaning to back to this series of books for around 30 years. Worth the wait. I recommend Terry Brooks to any lover of fantasy.

There were still some odd typos in the Kindle conversion but not nearly as many as the first 2 books, so that was nice.

The story itself was mostly light and fluffy and fun. Quick read, but a good read.

Light fantasy reading in this story.
I've read the mass volumes Terry has written and hands down I'm skewed in my thoughts to like this story a bit less than with the Shannara series. I am enjoying this series while I wait for June 2017 to reveal the latest book of the shannara series that claims to be an end of shannara.

I loved how Brooks split the story between Ben's old world and Landover, especially since Willow and Abernathy were exposed to the good ole' USA; though I hated to see Willow suffer. If you are a fan of the Landover series, you'll love this third installation. As usual, there is lots of excitement and tension going on between characters. I feel for Abernathy's longing to be completely human again...seeing as how he is the central character in this story. Wizard at Large also gave me a little more respect for Quester's magic capabilities...I said for his capabilities, not for him; he's messing up as usual in this story, so the comedic part of the Landover series carries on. Bottom line, Brooks fans won't be disappointed, but they usually never are:)

A fantastic adventure in Landover. This book appeals to adults and children. The usual characters return with another sinister figure. My favourite in all these stories is the dragon who has a bigger part in this. Brilliant and funny I love Terry Brooks writing style.

Apart from the frustration that the newly bought print copy of the book was missing the last chapter and part of the penultimate one.

A story of friends and wizardry that is largely spent back in our world. Abernathy - the man turned into a talking dog- is magicked back to Earth when the ditsy Wizard tried to turn him back into a human. He ends up in the castle if the ex prince of landover who is a nasty piece of work

Lots of twists and turns, and a lovely young girl called Elizabeth who does what she can to help
