I take it upon myself the duty to clarify some of the reviews that largely confuse the original story and the movie adaptation, saying that the story in this book is altered from the actual story and that Dorothy's shoes are not red here- This book does not deviate that much from the original book by L. Frank Baum, what it deviates from is the movie! Now I am a person though I love the movie, I like my books to stick to the original book version and do not care if it aligns to the likes of the movie. 2. Dorothy's shoes are indeed silver in the original 'The wonderful wizard of Oz' book, it's the movie that showed the shoes red. So this book is a very good simplified version for the pre-k and kindergarten level if you only care about the original story and do not expect the book to follow/supplement the movie.
This book is specifically suited for the 4-6 yrs age group (at a stretch could be good for some 3 yr olds also). But if your child is 6+ yrs of age the illustrations of this book would definitely be too juvenile- you should go for the abridged but beautifully illustrated version by Charles Santore, it has really breathtaking illustrations which children of 6 yrs and above will be able to fully appreciate. And if you are interested in the original book 'The wonderful Wizard of Oz' by L. Frank Baum - by the age of 8, your child should be able to follow/read the original.
We were disappointed since we bought it to use for my daughters character day for her to be Dorothy.
I feel like it shouldn't be title the same and should be sold at the dollar store as a cheap knock off.
