If you enjoy fantasy (Tolkien, especially), you'll love that this book transports you into a fairy tale realm. If you love reading The Brothers Grimm or stories of legends, you'll feel like you're immediately whisked away into a world of adventure, excitement, and danger. While a lot of authors write stories that loosely parallel famous works, this one is decidedly unique. Most importantly - it brings you into a whole new world.
One of the biggest problems that I have with most modern writers is that they seem to be scared to (or simply don't know how to) flesh out their characters. Mathias writes in a way that keeps the story moving, but he also lets you know about each character that you encounter. No character feels pointless or strained in this story. Everyone has their role. Everyone has a purpose. Everyone is vital to the story. Everyone makes you think, question, and feel.
If you're ready to be transported into another realm, into another world full of magic and adventure, take a look at this book. You'll fall in love with Telgra as she questions what she knows about humans and embarks on an adventure that the reader won't soon forget.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this book! And, there's plenty of `meat' here for fans of this genre to sink their teeth into. The author is truly prolific and this offers great value for money for those of us who enjoy a `muscular' read.
This absorbing and attention-grabbing work had me riveted from the beginning. The story flows from scene to scene effortlessly, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling.
As much as this genre can be predictable, I found this fantasy tale to be refreshingly imaginative. This page turner will take the reader on a stimulating journey. Also, the writing style is uncomplicated which makes for an enjoyable read.
With so many positive reviews, suffice to say, my input regarding the storyline would seem slightly irrelevant. However, I will comment that the writing style and storytelling ability is truly impressive.
It's one of those rare stories that come along that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to its final conclusion. I'm giving nothing away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the magical adventure that awaits the reader!
The entire trilogy would be a highly recommended read!
THE WIZARD AND THE WARLORD is the concluding Book 3 in the trilogy and in the stance of this review the entire trilogy should be read in order of writing - it is so much more fun and more powerful that way. The plot as a stand alone book brings the reader to a gripping conclusion. And the author summarizes is most appropriately - This compelling volume brings the elves, dwarves, giants, and the dragons into the story again as our heroes, led by High King Mikahl and the great wizard Hyden Hawk, are forced to fight for the fate of the Kingdoms. This time, they do so against the terrible creature that Gerard Skyler has become, and the legions of demon-beasts that he commands. You may see some of these characters and locals again, but the story of Claret and mighty Ironspike comes to its magnificent end here.' As said before, `The power of Wardstone is that it is just a substance. The likeable, but dastardly evil wizard, casts spells using potions, scrolls, and spoken spells from memory. His daughter Shaella relies more on her ability to charm what she wants out of people, but even she is fallible and falls in love with the boy she is using. The sword `Iron Spike' fills its owner with an angelic symphonic chorus of power. It's a big continent. Different regions have different customs all the way around. I would have to say as a whole these is no single `system' of magic. The uniqueness of the characters in the books, and the unexpected events, losses, and emotion are what make my writing unique.'
There are few writers in the genre of fantasy that can equal the creative mind of M.R. Mathias. Thid ending of the trilogy substantiates the might and the flight of fancy and magic Mathias has created. Highly Recommended for Young Adults and adults who long to be young again! It is a great adventure.
Not as in depth as other long series. But more than enough detail to keep the readers interest.
