Product Description
As one of several supercomputers in a fully automated widget factory, you have it made. You are brilliant. You are powerful. You are sophisticated. You are bored. Time to enjoy a little fun at the factory's expense. With the other computers, program factory robots and pit them against each other in frantic, destructive races across the factory floors. Be the first to touch the flags, in order, and you win it all: the honor, the glory, the grudging respect of the other computers. But first you have to get your robot past obstacles like gaping pits, industrial lasers, moving conveyor belts and, of course, the other robots.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2010Roborally is the first strategy board game I decided to buy and I wasn't disappointed. This game is more fun the more players you have. The limit is eight. I found that it was less challenging the less players you have. But you shouldn't be intimidated by the word challenge if you plan on buying Roborally because the challenge and chaos that ensues in this game is what makes it fun. The replay value is awesome because there are many different ways to set up the four, double sided game boards. Altogether there are thirty-four different ways you can set it up for beginners, experts and teams. Some of the boards have special rules that you play by.
It will take a bit to learn how to play, but once you understand how the game works its pretty straightforward. I found the most effective way to learn was to set up the board game and play through with your rule book handy. But when I did this I had already read the rules and had a pretty good idea of how to play so it was easy to guide my friends who were playing for the first time. One of the option cards in the game was a bit vague in explaining how to use it. I don't know about the other option cards because whenever I've played Roborally we drew maybe three a game, so this may or may not apply to other option cards as well.
As far as the games educational value goes, I think strategy board games are a great way to flex your brainpower. You're not learning geography or anything like that but if you happen to be directionally challenged this game might not be for you as you'll more than likely get very frustrated. In fact, they have a name for a movement that Roborally players have a tendency to do called the 'Roborally Dance' when players are trying to figure out which direction they need to go in. You have to think about how you want to move your robot depending on the cards you're dealt to get to the flags, and how the board elements in the game (or other robots) will effect your movement. And you better not take a long time because the last player to finish "programming" their robot will only have thirty seconds to finish. If you don't finish in time, your cards are shuffled by the person on your right and randomly chosen for you. So I rated the educational value of this game five stars because this game involves quite a bit of thinking to survive the board and other players.
I gave the durability rating three stars. The most durable things are the figurines, the sand timer, and the flags, which are all plastic. Everything else is cardboard. And not very strong cardboard at that. Your board will probably outlive your playing cards which, when shuffled constantly, have a tendency to wear on the sides if you're not a smooth shuffler. After playing five time though, my game is still looking pretty good. The only wear I've seen are the edges of the playing cards (because you do shuffle them quite a bit) and the edges of some of the tokens. But if you don't take your frustration out on your board game, I don't see this as being a problem.
Overall, I give Roborally an easy five stars and I would highly reccomend this game to anyone who would enjoy a challenging game where chaos is sure to ensue.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2016Repeat after me: Right is Clockwise, Left is Counterclockwise!
I bought this game as a gift for my husband, and assumed that he'd win just as easily as he does at everything else from "7 Wonders" to "Carcassone." To my great pleasure, after losing a game or two up front, I proceeded to win three in a row! Turns out that there is quite a bit more randomness, both in terms of cards dealt and unanticipated (and often unintentional) interference from other players, then I had anticipated, evening out the playing field just a bit!
Most of the folks we played it with over the holidays really enjoyed it as well. My 6 year old son has actually given it a try a few times, but it's just a bit beyond his ability and attention span. We may have him play the "Galapagos" rules on Robot Turtles for a while before trying this one again!
One of my concerns when I purchased was that it would simply be too long a game for group that plays on Sundays for 60-75 minutes. Thankfully there are things you can do to reduce the time requirement. First and foremost is to go with fewer players. (BTW, this is one of the few "real" games we've played that scales down nicely to two players!) Secondly, you can simply eliminate flags. We introduced it to two friends on Sunday and played to just one flag in about 25 minutes. Of course, playing to fewer flags exacerbates the vagaries of bad luck in cards and interference - more flags will definitely showcase your skills more accurately!
A few minor complaints on the construction. First, the box shows game board layouts not possible with the included pieces as it uses both sides of one of the boards! Second, the cards, which have to be shuffled a Lot, are a little lighter than I would prefer. Finally, the little robot playing pieces are cute, but both their identities and their orientation can be little difficult to tell apart at a glance. At least one of a certain player's errors was made because she misidentified her bot while planning her move! After half a dozen games, I decided to add color: my husband suggested I paint them like miniatures, but thankfully, given my skill set, it turns out that ordinary Sharpies adhere just fine. I think this will help considerably.

Ciro BlancoReviewed in Mexico on January 27, 20165.0 out of 5 stars increible

Roborally is an excellent game! It is suited for most type of people from geeks to occasional board game players. I was also able to play by simplifying the game (playing only 3 games face up) with my 6 year-old daughter who loved it. The various board options allow versitality, including various degrees of difficulty. All in all, a fun and silly game worth playing.

gyerardosReviewed in Mexico on February 2, 20175.0 out of 5 stars Muy divertido pero algo largo

Got what I expected and at the price I wanted. Arrived when expected. Happy.
SilverReviewed in Canada on September 25, 20164.0 out of 5 stars Good, though game boards could be sturdier
This is a good version of the game and has some advantages (e.g., the clear flag markers) over the original version, though I do wish they'd printed the game boards on sturdier cardboard as mine were slightly warped (not unplayably so, just enough to be annoying) right out of the box. The original version of Robo Rally has higher-quality game boards.
