Bonnie sings of the ambiguity of love and hate, peace and war, via the folk-tinged songs of Susanna, whose work he's admired for many years. The songs of Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos are brought forth, one by one, by the Prince and his specially-chose group of players: longtime sideman Emmett Kelly, Cheyenne Mize and Chris Rodahaffer, combining folkish elements of banjo, fiddle and harmonies in an open, eerie spaces. This man is a true poet who is not afraid to explore the darkness and pathos of human existence, and stretch the boundaries of music and song. These songs do not disappoint in artistry and originality, but not as an introduction to his music. Albums such as Greatest Palace Music and The Letting Go are more approachable while not lacking in pathos, originality, and not infrequently, amusing sarcasm. The best thing is that in all his performances you can hear the words, and they are worth hearing.
