Our hero, Max Lowry, is one of the younger members of the SWAT team. Max's transformation came after a tragic ending to domestic violence. Max being new to his wolf powers, still doesn't have complete control over them and is quick to anger/shifting over seeing any child abused. His first meeting with his “one” was interesting. He recognized her scent right away as his "one" and a fellow wolf shifter but she had no idea as she didn't even know she was a shifter.
Lana Mason recently returned to Dallas after graduating from college. Her father is Deputy Chief Hal Mason who isn't to happy that when his daughter starts going out with one of his SWAT officers.
Lots more Beta and Omega have showed in Dallas seeking protection with Gage and the Wolf Pack from the Hunters. What they don't realize is the Hunters are already there and they want Lana.
Lots of surprises when it comes to the Hunters. The war is just beginning. The Wolf Pack is going to have to bring their A game to defeat them.
Max is sure they are getting along so well because she is a shifter. It doesn't take long to realize she doesn't know it. He'll deal later, their relationship is just too good, progressing too well. She wants to know about his past since she shared hers with him. He doesn't want to talk about that dark time.
Then danger strikes. First, it is a danger for Lana, but things are going bad for all. Can he keep her safe? What about the other wolves that have come for help?
This is an exciting, steamy, action-filled story with a conflict that seems impossible to resolve. The characters capture your interest and make you root for their success. One thing for sure--you'll never be disappointed by a Paige Tyler book and the SWAT team is one of my favorite. I listened to the audio of this book and was, as always, in love with them all.
Having read all the prior books, there was a little too much inner dialogue about past books and world building (like explaining the One) for me, but I get that the author likely did this for those who hadn't read the past books, still it made the book a little longer then it needed to be for me.
The best parts were the action and Max and Lana. I really liked both of them, and the way they were written. Loved the action and the inclusion of DV issues for Max and he dealt with them. I would definitely recommend.
Max Lowry is a sexy, hot wolf shifter that is also a member of the SWAT team (SPECIAL WOLF ALPHA TEAM) Lana Mason is sexy, sweet, sassy and has no idea she is a wolf shifter or that her life is in danger because of it. This is a passion filled thrill ride that was so hard to put down, loved every heart pounding twist and turn. I now have the overwhelming need to read the rest of the series.
It's a story of two strong characters finding true love and coming to terms not only with their past but the ways of the pack family. It includes two very real stories of domestic violence. True entertainment. Full of suspense and mystery. A fantastic addition to the series. If you haven't read the series you owe it to yourself to read it.
If you like sexy werewolf romances with an engrossing pace, an intense tone, lots of action and super secondary and main characters, then this is the book for you. If you haven't read all the SWAT books, you don't have to before you read this, but it makes more sense if you do read them in order. Whichever you decide, you are in for a treat, so enjoy!
His family life was toxic, and he made some poor choices after high school, but now he's a SWAT team cop with issues, and he's a werewolf. She had a good family beginning, she just got her degree, her dad is a cop who hates the SWAT guys, and she doesn't know she's a werewolf. So of course they are fated mates. Add in some nasty killers who are out to destroy all werewolves and have her name on their list, and you have a brief of the basics of the plot. Painful subjects are handled exceptionally well, and the characters are engaging and intriguing. I really liked this book.
Wish I could say the same for the narrator.
