This is the kind of humor Heather writes. Her characters jump off the page & make you laugh, cry and sometimes scream. I love the way she writes the dialogue between the characters because it causes the book to flow. I could not put the story down. I am sad this is the last in the series. We see old friends (from the previous books) which always make the stories fun. The mystery has you going up to the end with a wow kind of ending. Another thrilling tale! I hope someday Alec's children Cinnia and Weylyn get their own story because they are quite comical!
I received an ARC for an honest review. I must admit I still buy Heather's books even in paperback for each one is a keeper!
The Wolf of Kisimul Castle is one of the most fun books I’ve read in a long time. I can’t count the number of times Mairi and Alec made me grin and Heather McCollum’s writing just plain charmed the heck out of me.
Mairi is a strong, resourceful woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. When taken captive she doesn’t faint with fright, but defies Alec and makes herself comfortable in his dungeon. I loved Mairi’s cleverness, attitude, and warm heart. Kisimul Castle is a dark and depressing place when she arrives and she – along with Alec’s adorable children – turn it into a home. As for Alec, though he’s determined to avenge his wife’s murder, he’s no monster. He’s a kind and loving father and a leader who wants to do what’s best for his people. I adored both Alec and Mairi, which made it easy to become invested in their love story. Their romance is lively and fun; every part of it crackles with energy. The sparks that fly from their first meeting keep flying all through the book which made this a wonderfully satisfying romance.
Some books just make you happy when you read them, and that’s definitely the case for me with The Wolf of Kisimul Castle. This is the first book of Ms. McCollum’s that I’ve read and her style reminded me of vintage Julie Garwood. I couldn’t have been more entertained by Mairi and Alec’s story and I cannot wait to go back and read Ms. McCollum’s first two Highland Isles tales!
Exciting from beginning to end. Mairi is wonderful from her actions and attitude at being taken on her wedding to taking "the Wolf's
Kids under her wings to winning the loyalty and love of the people!! The man called the WOLF, Alec McKain is strong In mind and body, with a kindness to animals and people alike! He is easy to love and I found myself longing for them to fall in love!!!
Heather McCullum is a wonderful author!! I hope she writes more In this series as I would love for Grace to have a love story and also Bessy!!

My only slight criticism would be that there were a few American slang words used that I didn't understand and that highland ladies of that time did not curse. Very few men would have cursed either. My Great Aunties that are 90 years young would never have used language or understood some of it that was in this book never mind my ancestors. And I certainly don't curse like that.
If this book inspires you to visit the castle then it is as described. The grassy courtyard and rock's where the boat docks are my 3 and 4 year olds favourite place to have a picnic and I get dragged over there often in the summer months. The castle is closed in the winter. Please be aware that the stairs to the upper levels are treacherous.
I don't believe in giving the story away in a review but encourage you to read this book for yourself.
One last point, the fertile land where the wild flowers thrive that is mentioned in the book is called the machair. It is worth googling some images of the machair.
The story of attraction, love, support and feeling. The intimate story is explained with feeling that leaves the reader feeling as if they are part of the story, a silent watching character.
A book that wants you to keep reading.
Ms McCollum pulls you into a brilliantly woven story of revenge and love.
I've laughed and cried reading this third book of the series and as much as I enjoyed the first two books, this was definitely my favourite of the three.
I highly recommend reading this book!
