Khaki was sick and tired of being on this small town’s police force. Ever since she’d broken up with that jerk Jeremy no one would take her side against that scumbag. The worst part was that right now she needed backup, badly or people maybe even her were going to die and because she’d been blackballed within the force no one was coming and that fact just sucked. When by some miracle she pulled off not dying in that shootout, she started to notice things differently. Like why was her sense of smell so enhanced now? Her questions soon had answers when Gage was waiting for her outside the police station. Dallas SWAT badge in hand. So sure, she’d talk and listen to his proposal — and change the rest of her life.
That scent hit Xander hard the minute Khaki walked into the compound. To discover that this was their female werewolf recruit and that Gage had assigned her to his Team simply blindsided Xander. He didn’t want her on his Team and made that fact known loudly to Gage, but as his superior officer and the Pack Leader, Gage had the final say. Even though Xander seemed to forget about a werewolf’s increased hearing ability during this discussion. He just knew that her scent was driving him crazy and he had no clue why or how to handle her under his command.
Wolf Trouble takes us through Khaki’s introduction, training and melding with SWAT. Her teammates soon realize that she is fully equipped to do the work they do without question. Oh sure, she needed training – but she’d proven she was up to the task. She doesn’t know why Xander dislikes her so much, especially when his scent sends her hormones into overdrive. Oh, well. At least she made it through training.
Xander and Khaki will take a while to figure out just why they react so to each other’s scents. But once they do act on the mutual attraction there is no doubt that they are perfect on the job and off. Through bank robberies, hostage situations this team pulls Khaki deeper into the Pack and the work they do. Soon she is as trusted as the longer standing members. But hiding the attraction from their teammates becomes harder to do the more involved this couple becomes.
Until one disastrous call that will change everything.
I completely enjoyed Wolf Trouble. Xander and Khaki are a hot, sexy couple and the edge of danger in their involvement just adds to the tensions in this story. It will take awhile for them to realize that the other is their The One, mate forever. But once they do, nothing and no one will keep them apart.
The action is fast paced and realistic, fast page turning will be involved as you devour this gripping tale. This one is an excellent addition to the SWAT series. And I cannot wait to start reading the next team member’s story… after all there are sixteen members to this SWAT unit. *grin* I’m a happy shifter reader at that number. Pick this one up now while there’s only one earlier story to get caught up on because I’m thinking you just might find yourself addicted to this particular series. I know I certainly am.
She's tall with long brown hair and big golden flecked brown eyes and she's still coming to grips with what she is. Khaki Blake just discovered she's not normal and it's confusing the hell out of her. But when she's asked by Gage Dixon (Dallas SWAT team Sergeant) to consider leaving her position in Washington and join the Dallas SWAT team, she jumps at the chance. She's the first female wolf recruit on a SWAT team of sixteen alpha wolves....a double whammy. She's unsure how she'll be received; being A) a woman...and B) a newbie. But all the gorgeous wolves embrace her and welcome her on their team and into their pack...lending support to her when she's never had any before. All except Xander Riggs, her team Commander....the one wolf she's obsessively attracted to.
Xander Riggs is sinfully handsome with his dark brown hair and warm chocolate brown eyes. His voice is husky and deep and he has a killer, muscular body. Yeah, Xander is one hawt testosterone menace. And little does Khaki know the turmoil she inflicts within him just by being in the same room...because Xander acts like she's the biggest pain in the butt. He treats her like a malodorous leper one minute, then he gives her a drool worthy smile and praises her progress the next. He emits a scent that drives her wild (and she to him as well).
This was a sweetly predictable, drawn out build-up to a paranormal romance amid very minor dramatic criminal events. I loved knowing both POV's from our h/H. It helped me to connect better...not completely; but better...however there was never any real urgency of fear or suspense within me while I read this story. There were a few moments where I had to pause and wonder why actions didn't line up with these wolf-y characters. Like the big showdown at the junkyard where there are 4 or 5 wolves to one human criminal...yet the criminal continuously bests the wolves. I kept wondering WHERE IS EVERYONE? These wolves who can sense things; can see in the dark; can run faster than lightening strikes; can smell just about everything and hear like nobody's business....so where was the help when Khaki and Xander needed it? WHY did it take everyone so long to come to the rescue? (just didn't make sense). Yes, I know there senses and abilities are dulled when they're wounded...but where did everyone go?
Once again, this story held all the aspects detrimental to a semi-suspenseful paranormal romance...ie; a little bit of excitement; a little bit of dramatic suspense; a little bit of humor behind a good story....and semi-romantic interludes tossed into the mix without overpowering the plot line. I only wished there were more descriptive details of our protagonists. We never learn the age of either H/h (which would've been nice). I told myself I wasn't gonna pursue this series after this story because it was basically the same as the first story and it seems like any future stories will follow this same path. But after reading the excerpt at the end of the book about Becker's love interest...well, my curiosity has been piqued. Even though this author is a far cry from Sherrilyn Kenyon or Kresley Cole, I will, no doubt, be looking forward to that third installment to this series in December.
The one weakness I found lay in the background story of the back robberies. I just didnt feel the emotional punch or interest in it. It was needed to balance serious with fun in the book but felt like something was missing or cut out. Still, the overall feel of the book resulted in an enjoyable read...and of course, I'll be listening to the audible version next just to be sure I haven't missed any part of this engaging story.
The SWAT team in Dallas has been told to diversify and add a female to their group. Won't that be difficult for this testosterone driven werewolf pack?
No, turns out it's not too difficult to find and add a female werewolf to the team. But Xander is suddenly finding it very hard to concentrate because she smells so incredibly good. Definitely good enough to eat.
Yes, pun intended. A great adventure with hot, sexy men and their habits when confronted by a competent female. Poor Xander just can't resist his One true mate.
It was a fast and easy read with quick moving action and compelling attraction between Xander and Khaki. I can't wait to read how the rest of these men meet their own mates.
