Short game that can be finished easily within a week of playing at night. It's worth the play through, but probably not at full price.
It's completely built around its story with excellent characters, cutscenes, and voice acting. And that, combined with the variety of gameplay, makes it very reminiscent of Half-Life 2 (which I don't throw around often, it truly does feel that way here).
It also has a bunch of throwback references to the original Wolfenstein and remembers its past games, even allowing you to play in an updated version of the original game at one point.
I usually choose to play games on Easy, but I must say, it treats its hardest difficulty very well and is actually playable (which is good since it gives a trophy/achievement for it). Also gives lots of other things to help the player like a ton of health/armor pickups, and saving progress of your in-game achievements even after death (e.g., "kill 20 guys" will still count the ones you just killed before dying, making those way easier to get).
One of its best features is that it forces you to make a choice early on in the game and it ends up changing almost all the cutscenes after that point as well as a few collectibles/secret areas. This makes a second playthrough (which btw, keeps all your progress so it's basically a New Game+ mode) completely worth it, which is good so you can go back and find collectibles you missed (you actually HAVE to do both to find everything, but it's not an issue as it gives you a level select option if you just want to jump to a specific one).
With amazing graphics/beautiful levels, varied gameplay, humor, emotion, great characters, and still managing to keep its cool/violent fun and tongue-in-cheek arcade feel, this game totally surprised me and shattered my expectations. Great, great job devs (MachineGames, this being their first release).
P.S. I have to acknowledge their excellent and refreshing decision to NOT include multiplayer in the game. Games don't need it pointlessly tacked on and I have to applaud the devs for knowing what they wanted, and their publisher Bethesda for not forcing them.
The storyline is actually pretty well thought out. A revisionist history where the Nazi's win, it's not gimmicky. It actually seems pretty thoroughly researched and true to what such a scenario might have looked like.
seriously Wolfenstein: The New Order is such an awesome game I have never played a shooter with so many elements added into it, such as (this is from first hour of my play)
the ability to dual weild ANYTHING (even snipers) and the amazing part is the fact you can sway left and right or even pop down at any time with their new cover system, choose how you play gunz blazin or the sneaky knife killer. but in my own opinion and im an avid gamer this game is a cross between several games the guns look and feel like there out of call of duty yet much much stronger damage, its like bioshock in a sense (no superpowers or horrible gunplay but play Wolfensten youll see) and like metal gear solid ina sense because if ur silent and don't alert enemies you can go thru some sections without even tripping the alarm so it has that mechanic as well as far as the detection part goes but seriously THIS GAME IS A 10/10
