- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2019Platform For Display: Nintendo SwitchEdition: DeluxeVerified PurchaseI’ve put almost 45 hours into this and have completed All the missions- just needing to find a few collectibles now.
This game is fun to play. It draws you into the story and action. This game does have a story but I found a good portion of it is laid out surrounding/ towards the end of the third major mission (brother 3). There are not nearly as many cutscenes as Wolf 2 but I don’t think that is a bad thing. That game was all over the place in terms of story. This game definitely is sticking to a much tighter storyline- find dad, help Neu Paris and the resistance. There are a lot of missions that utilize parts of the maps so yes there is familiarity after awhile but I did not find it to be too repetitive. The map areas felt large and detailed and encouraged exploration for finding collectibles. Once I started finding the collectibles ( tricky!) I realized that they do add to the overall atmosphere of the game- the UVK covers are funny to read and the readables really set the mood.
The co-op feature is a blessing and a curse. Overall I can say that I liked it very much and would like to see future games implement this. You have to keep track of your teammate and shared lives. Peps are lifesavers in sticky situations too. However I can’t deny how aggravated I’ve been to get close to finishing a mission and run through all the shared lives just to die and literally have to start the entire mission over. This happened mostly when I played with random inexperienced players- but that’s like all games you play online. I found the AI player to be great.
The music is great, the scene is great, gameplay is fun, being able to upgrade your player to your liking is fantastic, visually this game does need an update and there have been some slight performance issues- getting blurry but I would say I experienced performance issues less that 5% of my playing time. Great game and definitely worth the price.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2019Platform For Display: Nintendo SwitchEdition: DeluxeVerified PurchaseVery fun game, though dramatically different pacing from previous Wolfenstein games. Another review on Amazon claims of false advertising, but neither Bethesda or Nintendo ever said this was anything other than a download code in a case. They have said from day 1 that this is not a physical release, but rather a download. Also, if you simply look at the box art it's as plain as day that is is a download code. If you're upset at this release, it's only because you didn't read anything released by Bethesda or Nintendo. It's your own fault. For those of you who do your research, you'll find a fun co-op experience with level-based enemies and progression, punchy weapons, and satisfying gameplay.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2019Platform For Display: Nintendo SwitchEdition: DeluxeVerified PurchaseI bought this because I wanted a decent FPS to play. From the start it tries to get you to purchase a Nintendo On-Line description. It is not intuitive to get to the single player mode. It’s like Nintendo gave them some kind of incentive to play without a subscription.
Also, the game is very dark and hard to see the cross hairs on your weapons. And the text is very small and hard to read on the switch itself.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2019Platform For Display: Nintendo SwitchEdition: DeluxeVerified PurchaseI would have rated this game higher had I not been deceived into buying a digital game. The original box art nor the description stated this was a digital game, download, or similar. That being said, I find this game rather enjoyable. The banter between the sisters is comical and makes killing Nazis more relaxed and fun(not as fun as it would have been if my game was on a cartridge)but still fun. The graphics are fairly good but the controls seem superior to previous games in the series(maybe it's the switch pro-controller).
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2019Platform For Display: Nintendo SwitchEdition: DeluxeVerified PurchaseIf you liked the previous Wolfenstein games in the current series there is alot to like here as well. The game is clearly meant to be an extension of New Colossus as it features almost the exact same weapon set and enemy types from that game. What is new is the co-op which works incredibly well. Its drop in functions seamlessly with no interruption for the player who is being joined and even supports system level voice chat. I use an 3.5mm headphone extension to allow me to plug my headset into my Switch while docked.
The downsides of the chat are that there is no slider for adjusting voice chat volume beyond a certain point so it is important to have the headphone volume of your Switch maxed out and then lower the volume of the game itself in the audio options. Given how few games support this feature on Switch I was more than happy to deal with a little volume tweaking. Also worth mentioning about the co-op is the level system.
I know a lot of people were unhappy with the addition of RPG elements as they pad out an otherwise short experience. While it is true they are not necessary I actually appreciate the length they add to the game and give you much more customization to your abilities to make your character somewhat unique. It is possible to earn all of the unlocks but would require playing well after the credits roll on the story to get them all.
One final side note is that your co-op partner's level and unlocks are their own so for example if you are nearing the end game you can be joined by a low level player and the enemies will not scale down meaning they will have a very hard time staying alive.
Regarding the deluxe edition specifically. You may have seen talk that this game has microtransactions that are making alot of players complain. The deluxe edition comes with several of the skins that are normally obtained through microtransactions and the added value of the buddy pass which lets you play with any friend who does not have a copy of the game are great added value for a game that is not even full priced to begin with. I added the price of the only skins I did not get and it would cost less than the $5 pack of silver bars to get the rest of the items I did not get with the deluxe edition. Which as a side note shipped for $8 less than the list price from when I preordered so the rage over the addition of microtransactions baffles me as they are mostly cosmetic with the exception of a few "fast forward" items that give an optional exp and cash gain boosts.
TLDR if you like killing nazis with a friend at a discount you cant beat Wolfenstein Youngblood.
