Pros: It's cheap and old fashioned.
Cons: It's cheap and it's broken. It's pretty dim when it worked. It works for a few calls.
The fixes: I took it apart to fix it. 10 minutes and a whole lotta glue and clamping later, it works just fine. The rotating assembly is bolted to a plastic mounting base which basically cracks and goes into little pieces. Luckily all the little pieces were inside the globe and could be glued together like a puzzle. If it breaks again, I have to make a metal mounting bracket. To fix the dimness, I'm putting an LED replacement bulb in from Amazon.
Verdict: If you must have an old fashioned rotating light. It's like a brew your own kit. You gotta fix and modify it.
(8/1/13) ok, looked like what we needed, so i ordered the rest of them. used them at the event and everything was good. they made our vehicles look more 'official' so that everyone knew they weren't just pickups driving around with their emergency flashers on. had a couple of comments from the drivers that after driving around with them for 6+ hours that they got a little tired of hearing them through the roof, so maybe they're a little noisy. oh well. we will only use these once a year, so they'll probably last a while. i'll keep my original rating.
(8/21/14) alrighty.....2nd year of using them. they still work fine and look good and all of that but our HAM radio operators have noticed that they seem to put out some interference that causes problems for the (radio) operators that are assigned to each of the SAG vehicles, most probably due to the electric motors. they are going to investigate how to mitigate that problem and i'll report back.
