However... I have both a wide foot & high instep. These boots are designed with the tongue sealed all the way from bottom to top. This is great to keep water out. But the area around the ankle on this particular boot is so incredibly small and tight I literally could not get my foot past the ankle area down into the boot. Since I ordered an extra-wide size, I would have thought Wolverine would realize that extra room is needed in the transition from the ankle to foot, as well.
Men with 'regular' feet will probably love this boot. Just not if those of us who have a wide foot and/or high instep.
I will direct one complaint at the description of this product by Amazon. These boots have a half-gusset....a gusset being material between the boot eyelet flaps and the tongue. I really prefer full gusset boots, and there was NOTHING in the Amazon description or on the Wolverine website that said these boots were half-gusseted. This is a bad oversight. I have worn half-gusseted boots before and survived, so I will get along. But, Amazon, you need to get your crap together on product descriptions.
I owned these several years and have gone on many hikes in these, one being 12 miles, with minimal pain. With 400 grams of thinsulate, they will keep you warm when its cold, but not sweating (too much) when its hot. I live in FL, and I can wear these year round without too much discomfort.
Only qualm is that they are indeed "half-gusseted" which means they are really only waterproof up to 6 inches, instead of 8. But whatever, it's still a great boot.
Only issue is the the tab on the back pulled off, will either send them back or take them to a cobbler here.
