The shoes looked great, and the material seemed fairly top-notch. However, call me whatever you want, but I feel its not an unreasonable expectation that the left shoe and the right shoe be the same size (and, say, match each other). They were both marked with the identical size. The left shoe fit perfectly. The right shoe was noticeably wider and the toe was noticeably more rounded. My foot had extra room on either side. Way too loose! The right shoe was larger than the left! Not only was the fit different, but the appearance was different. No way could they have been a matched set.
I think this is a stain on what at least used to be an outstanding shoe.
I wear a size 11 shoe. My foot is narrower than average, in dress shoes I wear an 11B. I expect medium width shoes to fit a bit loose, I'm used to it. These Wolverine shoes pinch my feet and my toes hit the front of the toe box. I double checked, both shoes are marked 11M on the tongue. I compared the soles with my Wolverine work boots, which fit great. The sole design is different, but the length matches, and the soles curve like I expect them to. So the soles are the right size. The problem must be with the construction of the uppers, they are too small and it feels like there is no curvature to them.
In addition to the poor fit, the shoes feel cheap. They lack flexibility and they feel abnormally heavy. There is a dye mismatch on the toe of the left boot -- not a variation in the leather, but a problem with the dyeing process. If the shoes fit right, I might still hesitate to keep them.
I made this online purchase without trying the shoes in a store first. That was a mistake, but I thought I could trust Wolverine as a brand. I read the reviews on Amazon, saw some of the poor ratings, but bought the shoes anyway. That was another mistake.
