Out of habit of years of searching for the perfect walking work boot, I am using popular gel inserts in my Wolverines to add additional comfort to my stride. I am a 240 pound man and I get about 2,000 hours of walking from these boots before the cushioning goes away. A gauge of time for me to switch to the next pair is when the shoe strings break, go to the next pair. I then switch to my second pair of Wolverines and order up the next two pairs from Amazon. For my size and usage, the cushioning has really gone away with the broken shoe strings.
Ankle support for me is crucial and these 6" hikers are just right for me.
I initially purchased the W05103 Wolverines for the tread pattern. I like its self-cleaning tread pattern and the bite I get while walking through ditches and un-even terrain.
I have never worn the soles slick and the waterproofing has never gone away. I have never had a sharp object poke through the sole while working at cluttered job sites; although the sole does remain flexible and is not advertised as impenetrable.
Bang for my buck, these W05103 Wolverines have been hard to beat.
These Wolverines replaced a similar style pair of Clarke's goretex waterproof boots that I've had for nearly two decades and have held up like champs for all forms of hiking/outdoor purposes with astounding longevity -- the rubber began dryrotting before the actual shoe wore out. I've only had these for a month or two but I'm feeling pretty good about these living up to the challenge set by my last pair.
They initially seem slightly on the big side -- almost considered exchanging them -- but after wearing them and breaking them in they feel just right.
