Damian Vesik the young necromancer is evolving, and we don't know into quite what, but man is it fun to find out. Eric has created some extremely engaging characters in Damion and his family and friends. People you'd like to hang out with. Funny warm and flat out crazy. It rocks. It rolls. It laughs and cries, and takes you right along with it. The bad guys are really nasty bastards and you are right in there with Damion as he pursues them. It's take no prisoners war. WooHoo! Oh yeah, and there is the Nixie. . .mmm.
Eric Asher has a very fine narrative voice indeed, and he has passed his sophomore test with flying colors here. No let down, or up at all. Very much like Jim Butcher he has a fine snarky sense of a reality unbound by very many rules at all. It's all here. Necros good and awful, to werewolves, to fay and fairy and wiccan priestesses to demons and some very enigmatic old gods who are scary indeed. All of the creatures that make you smile, and all of the creatures that scare you to death. I love the freedom of it all. This series rates right up there with anyone. This guy is going to be one of the best. Great job Eric.
I must applaud Eric Asher, I LOVED his first book! He is an amazing storyteller that has that unique ability to teleport his readers to the time and place he is writing about. He creates believable characters even if they are creatures that, shall we say, do not normally appear in nature. His story line development is nearly flawless. Reading one of his books is to become an active participant in his world.
Damian is one of my favorite male characters. He is just a great guy, funny, engaging, cool, would be fun to have a drink with, oh and I probably should mention he is a necromancer that is evolving but we have no clue what he is evolving into. The one thing I am certain of is that Damian is a good guy! He takes us on a thrill ride where he must battle a dark necromancer, who has ‘returned from the dead’ after 150 years and has taken Zola hostage. He has to rescue his master with the help of his merry band of unlikely friends and along the way he develops a relationship with a local wolf pack.
Again I come back to Eric’s amazing story telling abilities, there is every creature imaginable and some you maybe never imagined in this book but they are all so beautifully written that you will truly believe they along with Damian are out there somewhere battling evil and saving the day.
To say that this book has it all is an understatement. It is truly an awesome read and one I waited for. I now find myself waiting for the next installment in Damian’s adventures. Write fast Eric, write fast.

Phillip it seems is raising an army to scour humanity from the earth, Damian is just the necromancer to try to stop him with a bit of "help from his friends".
While the author does an excellent job at situations that are horrible with a bit of levity he does not cheat the reader out of a great story. The secondary characters are fleshed out enough for you to get to know most of them and the fact that he finally throws a bit of romance into this book (totally missing from book 1) is an improvement although this is Urban Fantasy all the way and it stays true to that genre.
There are battles and strategies , there are attacks, warmhearted situations and a bit of tragedy, all of which you will love. The concluding few chapters are some of the best I have read in years, the pacing might be slow in a couple of places but the finale is nothing short of amazing.
Well done and highly recommended 4.5 Stars rounded up.
Damian (Love Him) is learning more and more. I really like Zola, his mentor and master, even when she is making me yell at my book! Who would have thought that HE ( I hate him) would be alive and OMG…. (You have to read it to see what I am referring to…. Trust me just READ IT)
Now all H_ll is breaking loose. Can Damian save everything and everyone from the….? What a nightmare Damian and the crew have to deal with. Thank you for the new characters!
I really need the next book in this series STAT!!! Hurry Eric Hurry please! I am giving this book 5 stars. I loved it even more than the first one and I really loved that one! I am so excited about the next installment that it will be hard not to stalk and torment Eric with questions of when and how come and you’re killing me. Thank you for letting me read this and I hope everyone that gets the chance to picks it up and gets into it like I did!
