I read this novel in less than a day- the most absorbed I’ve been by a book in a while. The pacing is impeccable, the characters are relatable, and it pulled me in from page one.
Morgan Kinkaid is waiting for her subway train when a stranger thrusts her baby into her arms - then jumps. But from there the situation gets worse and worse for Morgan. The cops don’t believe that the killer didn’t know her. They suspect Morgan pushed the woman, which means Morgan is against the clock to find out what really happened —for example, why did the woman know her name?— and prove her innocence.
Told through the point of view of Morgan and the woman who died, and in the vein of the best suspense novels, as a reader you always know just a little more than the protagonist in an ‘oh no look out!’ kind of way. All I’ll say is good luck putting the book down once you start!
A 5 star escapist read that pulled me in and didn’t let go, with a satisfying ending.
Samantha M. Bailey's writing and the plot of this novel. The characters. The twists and turns. The dark secrets. The revelations. I'm sure this book will be made into a hugely successful movie.
Good books are published for us to read. Great books are born for us to re-read. I have been re-reading WOMAN ON THE EDGE and I still love it as much as the first time. So this book definitely deserves a five stars rating from me.

My thanks to Headline for a digital edition via NetGalley of ‘Woman on the Edge’ by Samantha M. Bailey in exchange for an honest review. Its ebook and audiobook editions were published in October with the paperback due out on 26 November.
This tense domestic thriller opens with what is one of my worse nightmare scenarios. Morgan Kincaid is standing on the edge of a train platform (okay already I am urging her to please step back) when a distraught woman holding a baby speaks to her, then thrusts the baby into her arms, and jumps into the path of an oncoming train. Right..once I calmed myself down I read on.
From there the narrative splits into two streams. The first is narrated by Morgan as she struggles to understand what happened and why a stranger asked her to look after her baby. She is questioned by the police and discovers that none of the witnesses could confirm her story. When other facts emerge, including her own desire for a child, she becomes a suspect.
The second follows the dead woman, Nichole Markham, in the days leading up to that fateful encounter. No more plot details to avoid spoilers but I found it totally delivered on the tension and twists.
As the audiobook was available, I listened alongside reading. I ended up devouring it in a single sitting as it was so brilliant I couldn’t tear myself away.
This was a great debut and I look forward to reading her future projects.
The police are quickly suspicious that there is more to this than suicide and poor Morgan becomes prime suspect number one!
The chapters alternate between Morgan and Nicole. We follow Morgan as she tries to clear her name and get to the bottom of why this stranger did what she did, and we follow Nicole from the birth of her baby up to that fateful day on the platform!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. With page after page of nail-biting twists and turns, but also some heart-wrenching moments too, it really does make for an unputdownable read! I really felt for both women and desperately wanted to help them, and I was suspicious of everyone around them. I loved that the story was fast-paced as I never once lost interest and each chapter always left a little cliff-hanger, so I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next.
This book is a debut for this author and what a cracking debut it is, I can’t wait to see what Samantha writes next.
