And it's not because I can't like a dark book. I absolutely love 1984, and that bittersweet ending hit me harder than any book I've ever read. But here I don't really feel suspenseful of what's going to happen next as anytime something even remotely good happens, something bad comes to ruin it right away.
Either way, the book was pretty cheap to get so there's that.
