Review

Review Rating:
5 stars Reviewed By Nandita Keshavan for Readers' Favorite

A Woman of Honour by Marlow Kelly is intended for adult readers due to its passionate scenes. Marlow is a brilliant writer and I read this book in one sitting since I was fascinated by the plot and wanted to see if the characters stay together. The lead characters, Duncan and Isabel, meet in the prison of a castle in darkness. An instant attraction is made clear at the start.

Review:
I couldn't put this story down. It kept me up until the wee hours of the
morning. I loved Duncan from the first page and kept hoping he and Isabel
would get together. It took me a little bit to totally warm up to Isabel,
but once I saw the true depth of her character, strength and resolve, I
fell in love with her, too. Marlow Kelly weaves a fascinating tale of life
and fighting between families in the Highlands. I look forward to more
from her in the future.

I liked it. It was a fast read and as nice respite in my day. A little more info about their feelings and a little more time to develop their relationship w would-be made the story even better though. The story seemed to advance at too fast a pace for me to give it any more stars.

A Woman of Honour

I was very pleased to receive an advanced copy of Woman of Honour from Marlow Kelly to read and review. The cover was very appealing and it was set in Scotland which is always of interest to me. It definitely drew me in right away and was fast paced and well written. Woman of Honour is a novella so it is a fairly quick read.

The story opens with our hero (Duncan Cameron) and heroine sharing a dark dungeon of Dunstaffnage Castle and completely unable to see each other or tell what the other individual looks like. In fact, their acquaintance begins with a fight as neither knows who the other is or whether they can be trusted. When the dust settles, Duncan discovers that the unknown woman he has fought with has been dressed as a boy and has plans to enter a convent. Isabel, (our heroine) does her best to ease Duncan’s headache caused by a head injury and in doing so makes herself more and more appealing to Duncan.

How they escape from their captors and make their way to safety involves lots of twists, turns and surprises. This was a fun read with likeable characters . For those wondering at the spelling of “Honour” in the title, Marlow is Canadian and that’s how we spell honour here.

Although I found the cover very appealing, I’m not really sure that the artist fully understood what Isabel looked like. The cover girl is quite buxom and even with strapping would have had a hard time passing for a boy. I think this is a great job for a debut story and would recommend it to all who enjoy a sweet innocent romance set in the Scotland of yesteryears.

Intriguing Characters. I enjoyed Isabel and Duncan's story very much. Isabel is not your normal heroine and Duncan is sexy and fun as well as being the type of person you might want at your side in case of troubles. Very entertaining.

If you are looking for a way to experience an amazing hour look no further than A Woman of Honour by Marlow Kelly! This was no dainty page-turner, I devoured this novella in one sitting. Richly drawn characters in a high stakes action setting will keep you riveted and provide a nice diversion to Medieval Scotland. This talented author is a definite writer to follow. *Review copy provided by author*

Can Duncan convince Isabel to give love another chance?

Isabel and Duncan meet under some very unusual circumstances and their first encounter is less than pleasant. Despite all that, they share some undeniable chemistry. In the pitch black dungeon, I began to see the first sparks of attraction flare between them. Even after they manage to escape their captors, the odds are definitely against Isabel and Duncan. I couldn’t help but wonder if they would survive long enough for their mutual attraction to grow into something more.

I really enjoyed getting to know Isabel. Even though this is a short story, I was able to get a good sense of what kind of woman Isabel is. She is strong, smart, and loyal. Her self esteem needs a bit of a boost. She’s never considered herself attractive, so Duncan’s attentions catch her off guard. She wants to believe she can have a future with him, but she has some serious doubts. Despite her self esteem issues, Isabel is definitely not a damsel in distress. She manages to survive in unbelievably harsh situations determined to fight until her last breath. On top of all that, she can more than hold her own when faced with a strong man like Duncan. It is easy to admire and cheer for such a strong woman.

Isabel and Duncan definitely have an instantaneous connection, and I must admit I’m usually a little skeptical concerning love at first sight. However, the chemistry Ms. Kelly created between Isabel and Duncan is so well done, and the circumstances these characters find themselves in are so extreme that I was easily able to suspend my disbelief and believe their romance was genuine. The intensity of Isabel and Duncan’s feelings fit the fast pace of the story perfectly.

A Woman of Honour is thoroughly entertaining.

Duncan wakes to find himself in a dark dungeon with a young woman who says she is dressed as a boy for her own safety and on her way to become a nun. This is a fun, short read. Most of the conflict in the story comes from outside sources—fleeing captors, braving the elements, etc.—and I loved that about this story (no angst or superfluous drama). Duncan is determined to have Isabel for his own almost from the beginning, it just takes him awhile to persuade her. Great adventure, and I liked that Isabel did her fair share of fighting, as well—she didn’t just wait for Duncan to save her. I look forward to reading the second book in this series, A Woman of Love!
