Pickler's 2012 release, "100 Proof" is a hard act to follow, easily my favorite country album of 2012. However, with her unapologetic and personal new release, it might give the reminiscent traditional sounding album a run for it's money.

The best thing "The Woman I Am" album does is capture Pickler's multi-dimensional personality, and each track does that exceptionally. The different sides of Pickler's personality are literally represented on the album cover.

She pulls off her pristine image and rolls it in the dirt on a few cuts. The bouncy "Little Bit Gypsy'" and the tongue in cheek "No Cure for Crazy" show that Pickler's unafraid to challenge female stereotypes. "White picket fence don't feel like home / don't need a rock/ need a rolling stone" suggests a desire to be spontaneous and nomadic while "No Cure for Crazy" pokes fun at the pristine small-town image we've come to associate with her. "I can try to act like you think I should but it ain't gonna do no good."

Being honest was always Pickler's strong-suit; She doesn't hide her blemishes. On this album in particular, she puts the spotlight on them. 'The Woman I Am" is so human that it's almost intimidating to listen to. "I get loud with a beer / Sometimes I cuss too much because I don't give a damn." The calm melody is in sharp contrast with the bold lyrics. The title track also represents Pickler's final stake in the ground - the end of her struggle to find a sound and a record label that is right for her. Also, maybe, the end of her attempt to make pretty for the cameras. Another very personal track, "Selma Drye", about Pickler's grandmother, is a favorite of mine. It has a grassroots folksy sound that is a refreshing topic in an clamour of songs about heartbroken love affairs.

Been listening to this one since yesterday morning, and I am very pleased with it across the board. If 100 Proof is a 5-star record, this one is a solid followup.

A few of the tracks drift into Carrie Underwood diva territory, but on the whole it has a traditional sound. The production is not so WALLOFSOUND as most contemporary country, which is a major plus for me. You get some solid story songs, some heartbreak and love ballads, and even a Loretta/Miranda-style attitude song ("Ring For Sale" would make a great single).

I hope to see "Closer to Nowhere" get some radio play. It's a terrific song and probably my favorite so far.

Check it out. Kellie is a talented singer with a firm respect for traditional country, and her current music deserves a lot more exposure than she's getting.

Kellie's voice on this album is what country is all about. Twangy and expressive.
This is very much like a modern version of a classic Loretta Lynn album. Tracks like 'ring for sale' and 'Selma Drye' are very catchy and tell as STORY and recorded with vocals dominating the arrangement.

Thank goodness for young country singers like Kellie.

Love this new album! It is a wonderful mix of country music at its best. I hope it is played on country radio more than 100 Proof was. It has everything from honky tonk to ballads. Kellie has stayed true to her country roots and I think there are many songs that could be hits.

Love every song on this one. Really nice that Kellie went back to her country roots on this one and her last one she has such a great country voice and is such a amazing girl. I hope she gets the respect and success she deserves on this one because it is a great country CD.

This latest album from Kellie Pickler just proves that simply winning a contest isn't what makes a person a success. Of course, a singer has to gain an audience with talent but because she was persistent and followed her dream, she has that audience and we have her clear and distinct music to enjoy. She's unique! It's hard to be disappointed with anything Kellie does and this is another winner! Buy it!

If you are wanting to hear good music, Kellie Pickler never disappoints. Her music is always good, and this CD is the best yet. Someone Somewhere Tonight is great, and I would definitely recommend watching the music video to it.

I love Kellie Pickler. I have all of her CDs. This is a good one, but not my favorite. However, I'm the kind that often has to listen to a CD several times before I judge whether I like it or not. I've only listened to it a couple of times, so the jury is still out on this one. I would say that 100 Proof is still my fave Kellie CD.
THIS IS AN UPDATE from my original review. I have listened to this over and over and it has NOW become my favorite Kellie CD! If you like/love Kellie's pure raw country style, you will love this! In the title track, "The Woman I Am", she talks about how she sometimes "falls to pieces" with Patsy Cline and how she misses "songs like that". Well, Kellie brings us "songs like that" in this CD. I wish country music would go back to this pure style. With almost all CDs I have, there are one or two songs that I skip because I just don't care for them. Not on this one! I love every song on this CD! I'm sad that Kellie Pickler is as underrated as she is. I think her music is amazing! Keep kicking out CDs like this one, Kellie, and I'll keep buying them!
