I'm usually a little leery of fiction that uses real-life people, but I really enjoy books set in the early 20th century and took a chance on this book. I really enjoyed it. I knew it would be a good read from the first chapter. As strangers the three women each have a secret and their journey on the train brings them together and leads to life-altering experiences.

The author has an exceptional talent in depicting the scene, the environment, and the characters' emotions so that the reader can easily picture the story. The action moves along at a good pace and the secrets are revealed in a timely manner. I found myself still thinking about the characters days after I finished it and it led me to read up on the real-life people depicted in the story.

Agatha Christie, in my mind, has always been a very clever old lady who wrote the most wonderful mysteries. Here, she is a flesh and blood woman and one whom I would have loved to know personally. The tale begins a little slowly but, through the simple yet sympathetic narration, the reader comes to love the depth of characterization as much as the plot. The author's use of poetic license is never overdone. A very enjoyable read.

Together with my i-pad I enjoyed visiting the places described in the book. Once the travelling came
to an end the story dissolved into nonsense and I lost interest very quickly. Would not recommend it
as a MUST read.

I didn't read the previews, I had no idea what it was about except it was Agatha Christie on the Orient Express. So as a lover of Agatha Christie I had to read it. I really enjoyed it, I loved how she wove her real life with this fictional account. The results of reading it, I picked up one of the books inspired in real life to her trip to the dig site.

This is not, by far, my favourite genre of books. I prefer historical novels, the Bernard Cornwell type. I tried this book for "a change between books". I got hooked. The description of places in the '20s, the well written, excellent description of characters, situations and places, the so different personalities of the book, the human differences.... this is a very good book. Flawless text. What a refreshing difference with lots of new writers. Will follow this writer, this is a brilliant work!

I enjoyed reading the book...the characters, the plot, the premise... until the end. I felt there was not a great deal of thought put into the end of the book. I found it rushed and loose ends were all confused. I had great hopes for suggesting this title for a woman's book discussion group but have decided against it now. Sorry.

For various reasons, it took me several months to finish. Once I was able to give it my attention the novel moved along quickly. The main characters became living beings, the settings hot and dry. I could feel the gritty sand stinging my face, smell the fragrance of flowers filling. The the air. .A thoroughly readable novel. . I shall look for more of this author's work.

This was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time.......well, since I last read Agatha Christie's autobiography and Come Tell Me How You Live which was about her life while married to an archaeologist (which I have read three times). It blended perfectly with facts and the author's fiction which was full of surprise and suspense. This story was truly on a par with the novels of Agatha Christie. I can only hope Ms. Ashford has more books like this one in the works.

I give 5 stars because this book is very well written, the story was interesting, moved along and was mostly believable. At the time I had not read a single Agatha Christie book but I'm sure I had seen a movie or show or two and frankly I thought this book ABOUT Agatha Christie was better. She lead an interesting life and Lindsay Jayne Ashford did a good job giving us a glimpse of what it might have been like to be Agatha Christie. I recommend this read.

it is written with all the restraint due an event/group of events of that particular time/era. tasteful, suspensful and lushly narrated. much in the same vein as the main character of this story would done if she had been the author instead of the primary character. I am quite enjoying it.
