Watching Linda write this book with the same loving compassion she gives her friends, family, and patients was a remarkable experience. I cried and laughed through all the pages. I am very happy this work is now published and accessible to all. Linda has the gift of voice: she listened to all their stories and enabled them to tell experience as they found it. What a blessing to know these courageous women exist and that a person like Linda could let them come alive for me in this special book! Thank you!

Some might think there's a narrow audience for this book(maybe those interested in the incarcerated or ministry programs), but I'm here to tell you that this is a book everyone should read. Not only was it informative as far as how the jail system works, but it also gave me an inside look at the lives of the women offenders. And I came away with more compassion and sympathy.

The book was an easy read, but an important one. Well worth the time and money. My advice is to buy it and read it!

Linda Pischke's book will deinitely open its readers eyes to a new world that not many care to think about. It made me look at criminals and offenders in a whole new light. She leaves you laughing one second and crying the next. Everyone has a story and this one will teach its readers to not judge a book by its cover, as it opens your eyes to the horror, loss, sadness, and unforgettable experiences endured by women across the country. After reading these touching tales of strength, endurance, and forgiveness you will want to know what you can do to make a difference in the lives of others. Linda Pischke and the Women of Block 12 are truley an inspiration to all!

I have heard people say that jail is too much like going on vacation for the prisoners. I have known some people who have been in jail and where they were was anything but vacation. This book gives real life stories of what jail is like and insight into the lives of women who end up in jail. People should read this book to see that something needs to be done to help women these days as too many are ending up in prison for long periods of time for minor offenses whereas some other people you would think would be in for long periods of time are only in for a few months. Hopefully reading this will spur on some new ministries to help provide alternatives to crime and jail for women in need.

Hearing these women's stories makes me realize that I didn't have things that bad growing up.
This book is well-written and the author shows a genuine caring for the women she has worked with.
And she admits that her idea of these prisoners was much different going in the first time and now that she knows them.
God has put her in a place where she can show God's love in the face of adversity. God bless you Linda.

I have worked with incarcerated and previously incarcerated women, and the stories in this book resonate with those I have personally heard. It is wonderful to see some overcome their addictions and their pasts to become responsible, contributing citizens.

I have led some writing workshops at a women's county jail, so I had an idea about what I was in for when I picked up Linda's book. However, the second half of the book blew my mind. The last 11 of the 22 chapters are first-person accounts written by jailed/imprisoned women of all ages and backgrounds. After I read them, I thought, "How do you ever pull yourself out of that morass?" Each woman wrote about a slightly different hell of a morass, including beyond-rough upbringings, abuse, and addiction. The message is clear... when you're so low that down seems up to you, there's only one ladder out: FAITH. Thank you Linda, for your honesty regarding your own faith journey... and for being a door through which these women may walk into our lives. - Gail Grenier, author
