Women in Horror Annual (1) Paperback – February 23, 2016
The Women in Horror Annual is an anthology of horror fiction and nonfiction written by women. While not unique in the horror literary landscape, the WHA counts as one among a scant handful of women-only anthologies. The WHA promotes and celebrates female voices in horror, and the stories and papers contained within represent a diverse group of writers, each with their own unique vision. Some of these women have published previously, while others are just starting out. Women are often under-represented in the horror market, and this anthology is a step toward providing more female voices a chance to be heard/read. The stories herein run the gamut from melancholic to erotic; some are violent, brutal affairs, and others are more psychological. The papers include cinematic and literary analysis, touching upon themes of blood, motherhood, and insanity.

About the authors

Melissa Groeling didn’t know she had an accent until she moved from New Jersey to Philadelphia. She thought everyone spoke the same way, called things by the same name…that is, until she got into her first debate with a Pennsylvanian over a “sub” or a “hoagie.” This soon led to other debates: jimmies versus sprinkles. Pork roll versus Taylor ham. It all became quite the struggle, a fight not to conform. Boldly trekking onwards, she knew she preferred a sub, sprinkles on her ice cream and Taylor ham for breakfast. So she kept at it, much like her writing.
Being a hardcore reader (thanks to those endless days in the library with her mom) helped shape her desire to produce stories of her own. To this day, there’s no one genre in which she dwells solely. How can anyone stay locked in the same place? Sooner or later, something else always creeps in. *cue the scary music*
Drop her line sometime. She’ll happily talk to you about tea (oh yes, she’s a tea drinker off-set only by those fancy-shmancy mochas from Starbucks), the New York Giants (a die-hard fan), chocolate (the dark kind, thanks), and cupcake recipes, because really, without icing, the world is just a muffin.

Sarah Doebereiner is a short story author, novelist, and poet. She graduated from Wright State University in 2010 with her BA in English. Sarah lives in central Ohio with her husband and two children. She currently works as a technical writer in the finance industry and also accepts freelance editorial and acquisition work.

Macabre themes fascinate her because of their tendency to stay with readers long after the book has been closed, but the joy in short fiction is the opportunity to try out all kinds of genres!

Born in the artists’ community of Woodstock, NY, Morgan Elektra discovered her passion for writing at a young age, penning stories of witches, vampires, and monsters at the dining room table. After years working day jobs and moonlighting as a reviewer for popular genre website Dread Central, Morgan left the comfort of an office to follow her dreams of writing fiction. She spent the early twenty-teens as a freelance ghostwriter of erotica, but has now put aside the masks to write under her own name. Morgan attends Southern New Hampshire University, where she is completing her MFA in Creative Writing. She writes dark fiction, paranormal romance, and erotica for those who, like her, are in love with the dark.
When not writing she can be found reading, or volunteering with and participating in her local LGBTQ+ community.
She currently lives near Savannah, GA with her husband, their cat Harlequin, and—if the rumors are to be believed (and she sincerely hopes they are)—an awful lot of ghosts.
If you have any questions this almost entirely true bio doesn't answer, Morgan encourages you to ask! She is an open book... cracked spine and all!
