Easy setup. Accepting a cable card (from the cable service provider, in my case Verizon Fios), this device tunes ALL my available cable channels, including all HD channels, connecting to my computer via USB. I watch TV in my Windows 7 Ultimate computer, using Windows Media Center. To use, just connect: cable system coaxial cable; supplied power cord; USB cable; and an activated cable card. Then, in Windows Media Center, follow the setup steps for cable TV. Media Center will identify all available channels and begin populating its Guide with program information. Click on a program in the guide, to begin watching it, or, click on a future program, to schedule recording.

The device works great on my Imac running Windows 7 Enterprise. Comcast includes 1 cable card free so no monthly fees to tune the premium or HD content. Picture quality is excellent and the setup was easy. I ran into a couple of issues getting the cable card authorized and enabled with Comcast but that was a problem on their end.

I thought I researched enough before purchasing, but I was wrong. I read it will work for any Windows Vista with Media Center. I followed instructions step by step, but when I turned on my PC, it never even recognized there was a new hardware plugged in. I then tried to download its driver form ATI's website, but I got an "unauthorized download" message. My HP PC came with a TV Tuner. I decided not to try uninstalling my working tuner to avoid making a grater mess.

It is written on the box this is an external tuner supplied with PC and it will only work on Windows Vista Digital Cable compatible. I think this should be warned by vendors. I am keeping it because I may buy another CPU and have two tuners.

If anyone knows a way to install this digital cable tuner on Windows Vista Home Premium, please share your information. You can contact me by adding domain yahoo.es to my alias amigo2004sv.

Satellite TV - Dish Network

I bought this thing with intentions of switching to cable, but thought I would try it out on Dish Network first. If you are a Dish Network customer, and are thinking about buying this, don't. As the other reviews have stated you can only get high-def with a cable card. You will not get high-def through Dish on this, and it will not work with Media center the way it's designed to. It just doesn't integrate well with a Dish Remote, DVR, or the Media Center guide. Honestly, it's pretty useless on Dish Network.

The reason I gave it 5 stars is because from what I've read it works great with cable TV, and a cable card. I didn't feel right giving it bad rating when my only problem was trying to use it with Dish, when it's really designed for cable. I hope this review has enlightened some curious Dish Network customers about using this with Windows Media Center. My advice to you would be buy a Logitech Revue, and possibly a Dish Sling adapter.

This came with an HP CTO custom desktop

This unit was issued back in 2007 to customers ordering special digital cable service authorized by MCard from the cable company. Congress passed a law about then, forcing them to allow digital subscribers to use their own equipment, so I ordered a special CTO computer from HP that complied with the requirements. Only about four other OEM companies were participating in it then, as HDTV was a new thing. I tore my hair out for 3 years trying to get this module to work on the special issue Windows Media Center and attending product key for this build. Finally after service pack 2, things settled down and allowed me to enjoy my content with my hard earned money. On or about July 2016, Microsoft quit using the Zap2IT guide for cable subscribers, so my DVR quite cooperating with the MCard module. The WMC would NOT accept the new Romi guide my cable company provided. This cable company pulled out all the stops trying to assist me in getting my content back, but Vista is so unstable that before long my TV Pack disappeared, which ONLY OEMs can provide, then the ATI HTML page that is supposed to show up in the network on Vista disappeared, so now there is NO WAY for me to setup my MCard over again to troubleshoot the problem. I am going to upgrade to Win7 to try and fix this, but I have my doubts as the last time I tried a clean install, all I could get was analog signal - I have no idea where this was coming from as Win7 WMC would not tell me which tuner it was using. It will be just pot luck I can get this thing working on this special unit again, so imagine the luck you will need to get it going on a machine that isn't designed from the ground up as a cable unit!! ATI now owned by AMD with NOT help you with this device, and I am surprised one reviewer was able to get theirs to work as of 2014 - this is 2016 and my cable company and most cable companies no longer support digital QAM or analog signals, so now I can't even use my Hauppauge tuner that is also installed by HP inside my machine. HP and AMD both with not lift one finger to help in this matter, so you should think twice and three times before trying this unit - unless you just like throwing money away by playing with things. The review named Rich is very experienced with this tech and his posts are all over the internet helping folks with WMC issues, and he even admits to this on one of the reviews here - I'd heed his advice. - If I am able to get this going with Wn7 on my special custom unit, I will revisit this review and add some stars, but the warning about OEM original equipment will still stand. Good luck folks!

EDIT: I finally upgraded to Win7, and I really like the newer operating system. The Media Center was more cooperative this time, but there were three glitches I had to clear up before all was well. These were Windows 7 problems and not the digital MCard module problems. I do warn folks, though, that Win 7 doesn't handle coming out of sleep mode very well, if at all; so to record programs you will need to leave the PC on 24/7/365. I am not going to change my rating though, because I feel only experts should be messing with this abomination, and even then, they will be very challenged. Thegreenbutton.tv forum site cannot easily answer all the questions a newbie to computing would have to get this module going smoothly. Fortunately mine is working great (for now)!

EDIT: After a few roll-up updates from Microsoft, I noticed things were working even better - MS also provides drivers for this module, and that is a relief, because AMD/ATI has made it impossible to find support information on their web site, which is why I still leave a one star rating here. The problem of being able to record while in sleep mode is solved now too. I recently noticed that HP is finally providing minimal support information for this device, because they were one of the OEMs allowed to install them. Quite frankly it is about time!! If you are wondering about buying this device, you better make sure your OEM PC manufacturer support it and all the OTHER hardware and software DRM that is required to match to it in your particular PC. It works well on Windows 7, but I had to upgrade to 7 to preserve the special edition of Media Center that was provided with Vista, so the DRM would accept my cable DVR setup. There is just a ton of stuff you have to consider when messing with premium content services. It would probably be easier just to buy a TiVO!!
