Killer soundtrack on ok vinyl
I can't get enough of this gorgeous soundtrack. It's superb - but this review is specifically about this vinyl release. It's pretty solid. Packaging is gorgeous, and they put it on two LPs rather than trimming the soundtrack to fit on one which is great. Mine was free of fingerprints and mostly flat. It's still pretty poppy and came out of the sleeve with a good amount of particles all over it, but plays nicely once cleaned. Plus the crackling is kinda part of the fun with vinyl for me!

I've been a soundtrack buff for years, and enjoy a variety of scores from various composers working in various styles: John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, Hans Zimmer, Steve Jablonsky, Brian Tyler, and Michael Giacchino -- every one of them has a slightly different style, and as long as their work is top-quality, I enjoy it.

I have always loved Hans Zimmer's music; I very much enjoyed most of the soundtrack for "Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice", but in that soundtrack, the theme that caught my attention and had my jaw slack in "wonder" (yes, I used that pun) and delight was Wonder Woman's. It was so original, so energetic, so catchy!

Then I heard that Zimmer was not going to be scoring "Wonder Woman". I was disappointed; but I was heartened to discovered that Rupert Gregson-Williams -- a longtime Zimmer collaborator -- was going to work in his place. I loved his work on "The Legend of Tarzan" last year. The only thing that I said was: "He had *better* use the new theme."

He did. This CD is one that I listened to twice in a row for the first time (and I never do that), and it's currently playing for a third time through as I type! I am stunned at its depth. The action music is thrilling, but smooth (it doesn't sound like an circus exploding in slow motion, which really irks me); you can tap your foot to it and it puts a smile on your face -- or at least it put one on mine. As an added bonus, there is a lot of slow, emotional, music that is full of heart, as well.

Interestingly, there are a few moments when the soundscape reminds me of "Tarzan", or Jablonsky's work on "Transformers", or of Patrick Doyle's work on the original "Thor" soundtrack (and, coincidentally, there are some moments that reminds of Brian Tyler's work on the sequel film, too). But it's never derivative. This is fresh, original, and fun.

And I haven't even seen the movie yet ...

Don't hesitate, not for a second. Click. Buy. Listen. Repeat.

Rupert Gregson-Williams was not who I would have imagined being a main choice to score what's easily one of the best films of the year and one of the best superhero films to date. After Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg) tackled BvS and Man of Steel together, I thought maybe Junkie XL would return or a frequent collaborator like Henry Jackman or even Rupert's brother Harry Gregson-Williams. But, after scoring The Legend of Tarzan and Hacksaw Ridge, I can see why Patty Jenkins chose him. His style is magnificent and evokes the best of all the composers talked about above, from the epic, sweeping orchestral melodies to the intense percussion and synth action cues that blend seamlessly with haunting emotional strings.

The opening track "Amazons of Themyscira" starts with a slow, brief rendition of Zimmer's theme for Wonder Woman from Dawn of Justice, and moves into a massive, fantastical sound that sets up the film's main theme, of which has awesome variations throughout, though the most emotional (in my opinion) being the 2nd track "History Lesson." Another brilliant use of Zimmer's theme, though, is in the track "Wonder Woman's Wrath," which takes place during a pretty awesome fight sequence with General Ludendorff towards the end of the film. My favorite track on the score though is "Hell Hath No Fury," which without spoiling the scene of which it's paired, is one of the most emotional moments, of which drives Diana to see the "great darkness within."

I could go all day talking about the soundtrack, but many others have already done so before me, so I'll end my review here. The score for Wonder Woman is just like the film: bold, emotionally-charged, epic, and, well, super!

Great soundtrack for a decent movie. Really digging it, there are some great uptempo tracks also great for the workout.

I've never listened to Rupert Gregson Williams before, but am really impressed by his scores, they are deep, filling, a little gritty which I love, with a great tempo to match the action and mood of the scenes in the movie. It's unusual for me when composers produce a score that informs the story so well, Mr. Gregson Williams achieves this in spades. This is an accolade I generally only reserve for the great Hans Zimmer. Also of note, he did not overuse Zimmers wonder woman theme from BvS, he peppered those amazing cello chords in just right without overdoing it, ensuring it was recognizable as Diana's theme, but keeping the themes completely his own. This is an album that is a must buy.

Ultimately, his score made the movie better than it would have been with a lesser composer. Even that 3rd act, which really needed great music to mitigate the writing getting progressively worse and some unfortunate creative choices my Jenkins and John's, they should have left it alone. Good job on Gregson Williams.

An impressive score that further enhances the movie and is great to listen to, again and again! Only one of the tracks is an actual song, To Be Human, and a truly excellent one by Sia. Listening to the original CD provides for maximum sound quality including great bass depth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rousing score for Diana's first major big screen outing.

Fantastic score by Mr Gregson-Williams and it really elevated the film to great heights which is testament to Patty Jenkins vision for the Amazonians and why it was so well received.

Together the on-screen action together with the rousing score really draw you in to this thoroughly well made film (no film is perfect) and well worth listening to in isolation to really hear what Rupert did with this score. There are so many stand out tracks there's no need listing them all, suffice to say the album is worthy of any collection. 5/5
