Top Customer Reviews
I chose Dash and Dot for my kids after reviewing 10-15 different kinds of robots and am very pleased with my decision. The Wonder team is doing a lot to keep the robots engaging including Scroll Quest missions, Dash and Dot Tv, and the robotics competition. My kids have had a few other robots before but Dash and Dot have definitely provided the most hours of play. I recommend getting started with Scroll Quest in the Wonder app. There is also a Blockly app which has an interface very similar to code.org which your child may have used before at school.
My kids even created a hide-and-seek game where they strap one phone to Dash's head and Facetime another phone that the seeker has. The seeker must stay in one place and drive Dash around to find the hider.
Pros: well-built robot, feels durable, excellent motors and crisp movement. Definitely does not feel like a "toy". Great, colorful apps. Excellent concept, and I do believe this system (the robot plus the apps) will get better over time.
Cons: difficulties connecting to bluetooth to update the device initially (tried with iPad, iPhone and Android systems). Also difficulty reconnecting on later tries. Secondly, games were either far too simple (dragging and connecting a line between two points), or not as intuitive as I expected (creating logic loops which sound interesting but weren't as clear from the interface on how to execute). Would have been great to at least be given some basic instructions before jumping right in.
I give Dash 3 stars because there were limitations that made it difficult to set up and use, but I also understand that I wasn't using it with the recommended age, nor did I spend several weeks with it as maybe my child would have grown into it more. My recommendation to parents is to purchase this for a child that has an interest in robots and technology to start with, and also a child who is at least the minimum age. Otherwise it's just a glorified RC car, as another reviewer commented.

Wonder Workshop Support Team.
Apps are available for Android, but not as completely developed as for Apple products. I'm impressed by the development that has gone into the design and function of these toys, and recommend them as my 'New Favorite Toy' to friends and family.
**My review is being written following about a month of review and play with Dash after receiving him for review from the Wonder Workshop as part of the Wonder Pack. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments and I'll do my best to get back to you with an answer.**
NOTE: In this package you will receive Dash (the robot), User Instructions and a USB charging cable.
☀︎ WHO SHOULD BUY IT ☀︎
My 17 year old daughter discovered this toy and within minutes declared she'd be taking it to college with her. If that isn't a ringing endorsement for 'gotta have it' I don't know what does.
This toy engages your mind and senses.
You have to interact with the (free) apps to get Dash (& Dot) to do what you want them to do, which for most kids and adults who will be drawn to this toy - will be second nature. The integration of apps with hardware (the toys) is very well done by Wonder Workshop. I found the apps performed well on my iPad mini 1st generation and iPad Air 2.
Ages 5 and up are recommended for this toy, but younger kids can enjoy the robots with supervision and assistance.
Wonder Workshop's Dash (& Dot) are perfect for...
♦︎ Inspiring teachers; public, private or home school, to bring tech into the classroom.
♦︎ Helping curious kids who love to learn to build valuable skills they'll need in the future, while they play.
♦︎ Anyone who loves gadgets and has pets. (My 3 dogs still don't know what to make of Dash!)
♦︎ Grandparents who want to give a gift that won't be put in the closet and forgotten a week after receiving it. (This toy opens a world of possibilities for unlimited play and learning.)
☀︎RESOURCES & APPS FOR BEFORE PURCHASE☀︎
Before unboxing I looked on YouTube at the Wonder Workshop channel to see videos on the product, and then went to the Wonder Workshop website to click on `Apps' and download the apps for use with my iPad 3 and iPad mini, both using iOS 8.3 at the time of this writing.
I also went to the Google Play store to get the Android app to use with my Samsung S3 smartphone, but per the list my phone was not supported.
Doing this prior to getting Dash & Dot out of their boxes was helpful, and gave me stuff to look at as the robots charged via USB prior to their first use.
☀︎COMPATIBLE DEVICES & OPERATING SYSTEMS☀︎
Compatible devices include the following. Note the device AND the iOS or Android version must both be compatible for the toy to integrate and work with the app!
♦︎ Apple iOS 7.1 or higher (TABLETS) - iPad 3, 4; iPad Mini 1, 2, 3; iPad Air 1, 2.
♦︎ Apple iOS 8.1 or higher (iPhone) - Only Go app is supported Phone 5, 5C, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, iPod Touch 5.
♦︎ Android version 4.4.2+ KitKat (TABLETS): Galaxy Note 10.1; Galaxy Note Pro 12.2; Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, 10.1; Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, 8.0, 10.1; Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4; Galaxy Tab S 8.4, 10.5; Nexus 7 (2013)*, Nexus 9.
♦︎ Android version 4.4.2+ KitKat (Smartphones) - Only Go app is supported on Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5. * Nexus 7 (2013) can only connect to one robot at a time. This means that you cannot use Dash & Dot at the same time. We recommend that Nexus 7 (2013) users purchase Dash only.
☀︎DASH TEACHES THROUGH PLAY☀︎
♦︎ Can record your voice and have Dash speak - even in a loop if you like!
♦︎ The robot is very cute upon waking; blinking and looking around.
♦︎ Apps are all free and the user interface is easy to learn and use. (4) Apps: Go, Path, Blockly and Xylo - available in iTunes Appstore. Blocklify, Go for Dash (& Dot) robot, and GoLite for Dash (& Dot) in Google Play.
♦︎ Dash seems to take on a personality with lots of personalization possible.
♦︎ The toy provide nearly limitless Interactive engagement - kept my teenager and pets engaged for hours which is a rarity!
♦︎ Well made; durable with quality accessories for even more fun.
♦︎ Kids who are able to read can easily set up these robots without help.
♦︎ Ready to play inside, outside or on the go. The toys are small enough to travel with you, and very durable.
♦︎ Excellent battery life and charge by USB.
♦︎ Cute, colorful and gender-neutral; not just a boy toy or girl toy.
♦︎ Good for encouraging both boys and girls to go into STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) fields through cognitive play.
♦︎ Dash can `hear' you, adding to interactive play.
♦︎ Dash has motion sensing abilities.
♦︎ Dot and Dash interact with each other, as well as the user. (Might want to consider the pack of both robots for even more fun.)
-/+ Android apps need improvement. The iOS apps are great.
-/+ Hefty price tag, but it's also a very cool toy that is educational for younger kids and just plain fun for everyone else. A great value overall.
Wonder Workshop has a winner in the Dash (& Dot) Robots. The toys are extremely sturdy and well made. They work as expected, and then some, offering seemingly limitless play and great options for expansion with accessories (not included in this package.) **Check out the Wonder Pack to see all the options.**
Dash's ease of use is unprecedented in a toy of this type in my experience, and I'm very happy with the way the iOS apps work with the toy to provide educational fun. I highly recommend Wonder Workshop's Dash & Dot toy robots to anyone who is drawn to tech toys or who wants to open up a world of learning and fun to anyone!
