"Ipcar has left behind a wonderful and extensive legacy...She produced many enduring children’s books of course, such as Hardcrabble Harvest, The Cat at Night, and Wild and Tame Animals…The disarming fact that Ipcar worked up until her last day calls to mind another hard worker, Big Betty, the one horse of Ipcar’s classic picture book, One Horse Farm…a perfect example of Ipcar’s timeless illustrations, their exquisite palette, quietly expressive figures and sublime backdrops offering an absorbing visual narrative…When I think of Dahlov Ipcar’s legacy many things come to mind, but her concern for personal character and integrity, so deftly and powerfully expressed, are something for which I will always carry a grateful memory."
- from A Farewell to Dahlov Ipcar, Publishers Weekly, Feb. 2017
“I was delighted to discover a new edition of My Wonderful Christmas Tree. This children's Christmas picture book by Dahlov Ipcar is an unusual Christmas book. It is not about Santa Claus nor is it about the birth of Jesus. It does not feature lots of bright colors and frenetic activity. Instead, it is a quiet counting book, in rhyme, that features animals that live in the fields and forests of New England.”(Elizabeth Kennedy, About.com, Best Children's Christmas Picture Books of 2008)
"The stylized illustrations combine elements of nature with striking design."(Nashua Telegraph 2017-03-29)
"A beautiful addition to any holiday book collection, Dahlov Ipcar's My Wonderful Christmas Tree combines simple verse with truly gorgeous illustrations. The accompanying text is a traditional children's counting poem, but Ipcars depiction of a wintery New England forest s inhabitants makes this a timeless classic. The cuddly black bears, prickly porcupines and squeaky chipmunks virtually flit through the pages in shades of sage green and deep orange. The illustrations are brightly imagined and will have you wanting to discover more of Ipcar's beautiful childrens books. This vibrant work of art will engage and delight both children and adults."(momcentral.com 2017-03-29)
Classic northwoods tale and signature art from the great Dahlov Ipcar.

Also, for those who celebrate a secular Christmas, this is a great one for keeping the celebration in the realm of nature, without any religious references outside the title and number of days. We celebrate Solstice and found this very usable - in combination with The Night Tree, we were able to focus on the Maine outdoors in our celebration of the return of light to the land.
