Jump to about a year after that, and they meet again at Carter's ranch for a fundraiser Mia is throwing. Laura's little brother goes missing and everyone goes searching for him. When he is found safe, Laura is so excited, she kisses Ethan, but immediately regrets it and tells him to forget it happened. They both try to forget...
Now we're into the crux of the story. It's a few months after the fundraiser and Mia has finally had her and Carter's baby. Both Ethan and Laura go to the hospital to congratulate Mia & Carter. When Mia sees the tension between the two, she gets them to go out together and get her her favorite food. Sitting together in the restaurant, they finally talk about their one night stand and what happened afterward. Ethan figures out what took place - his crazy, jealous secretary told Laura those lies about what Ethan said about Laura and she changed Laura's number in Ethan's phone and had a friend act as Laura's boyfriend. Once this is all out in the open, their attraction to each other comes back full force.
Laura's parents were killed in a plane crash less than a year before and she has taken over the parenting of her much younger brother and sister. When Laura sees how well Ethan takes to the kids and how quickly the kids bond with him, she starts falling even faster for him. And Ethan is falling for Laura, too. But how will this work? He's only in Colorado temporarily. He lives in California and loves his life there. Will the promise of a family be enough for him? What about Ethan's stalker - how can he keep himself, Laura, and the kids safe?
I really enjoyed reading this story. It was a great second chance romance filled with sweet romance, the perfect amount of heat, a billionaire who is willing to do anything to make her happy, and even some intrigue. I'm looking forward to reading more from Krista!
This book had the potential to be my favorite Krista Lakes book. The premise was excellent, Laura and Ethan were both really great characters, and the kids were so sweet that for the first half of the book I didn't want to put it down. But unfortunately, the second half was a complete let down. Instead of Ethan just being a really sweet guy who wanted to get to know Laura and the kids and maybe develop a relationship with them, he proceeded to whip out his gigantic checkbook and buy their affections. There were more details about the amazing things that the billionaire did for the poor family than there were details of him actually bonding with them. That seems to be the template for this series and that makes me sad. SLIGHT SPOILERS to end of paragraph: This is just my opinion, but I don't care about all of the teeny tiny details of every item of food that the couple ate at some ungodly expensive and stupidly extravagant meal, or about how Ethan can afford to rent out an entire water park and have sand trucked in to woo the kids with THINGS, I wanted to see Laura and the kids actually bonding with Ethan as a person the way they did in the first part of the book. Ethan even spouted off about how the “fancy stuff” didn't make their date great, just being with Laura was all that mattered...then he proceeded to ignore his own words and shower the family with lavish gifts, proving that it actually IS about the fancy stuff that he can afford to do for them. He never went back to the house to just hang out or anything that us non-billionaires would do. Just like with the first book of this series, if any sort of real bonding had happened with Laura and the kids between Ethan's unholy spending sprees, we didn't get to know about it. This would have been a four or even a five star book easily if we had. (This is a tiny thing but it was so odd to me that Laura, who was always at work in the first book and is supposed to be so indispensable to Carter's ranch, seemed to never have to go to work again after their horseback trip. I guess not having to work is the bonus of dating a billionaire?)
I very much enjoyed the mystery plot, and Ethan & Laura's first date (the one that happened at home) a lot, so it kills me to rate this one so low but this one just disappointed me. If you enjoy stories with sweet kids, and billionaires playing lavish-spending fairy godfather to women who can only afford Kraft dinner for their families and spend
I was very generously granted an ARC of this story and was under no obligation to write this review. Any criticism is meant to be constructive and not a reflection of my overall enjoyment of Ms. Lakes' work. I'm still a big fan, even if this series is obviously just not going to be for me.
What I enjoyed most about A Wonderful Kind of Love is watching how thoughtful and giving Ethan is to Laura and her siblings and what he is willing to do to give them experiences to make them happy. How Laura wants Ethan is their lives but fears that she might loose him again but to enjoy their time together fully as he has made her siblings smile more then they had since their parents accident which in her book means he is a keeper. Ethan and Laura will go through their ups and downs but figure things out along the way that works for them.
This book was an amazing read, but then again everything I have read by this author has always gotten 5 STARS from me. This book has a woman who has taken on a large role as sole provider for her two young siblings after their parents plane crashed, Ethan a Billionaire who meet this girl at a Christmas party had the best night of his life then never heard or seen her again for a year and a half, when they both see each other again they both feel and know that what they felt all them months ago is still there, a love story. If you like stories like this, then A Wonderful Kind of Love is a must!!
