The other complaints about the packaging are ridiculous. Of course not every smartphone uses a 3.5mm plug. The statement about the 3.5mm labeling being burried is just not true; it's perfectly easy to see on the package, even easier to see on the product page here on Amazon, and the name even implies as such "VOIPAD_35_"... clearly someone didn't read the description before they made their purchase. Lastly, the comment about ebay is also ridiculous because of course you can find cheaper stuff on ebay, that's true of just about everything isn't it?
The only complaint P.MSakamoto made that I would 100% agree with is that the labels for Mic/Headphone are very difficult to see. They're shown as being black on the packaging and product images here on Amazon but are in fact a gray color that is not much darker than the silver plug itself.
Summary: This product works _as advertised_ and does a decent job at it. I could have bought a similar cable for about $2 from monoprice, but this one actually looks nice and doesn't have a pink/green color combination.
I must state, by looking at the picture, that the makers of this product are now shipping these out with a longer strain relief on each connection of the cord. The cord is actually a bit thicker too in comparison to the picture.
Other reviewers have been saying that theirs broke easily and fast upon receiving. Looking at the old cord in the picture, it's very believable.
I like how this cord clearly labels headphones and mic as symbols on metal sleeves as opposed to the standard green (for speakers) and pink (for microphone) 3.5mm cords.
The worst I've had happen thus far is the metal sleeve for the microphone is starting to slide off when I pull on it, but I can just super glue that back on easily.
Functionally, this cord works great, and I think it deserves another chance since the (possible) revision from the picture.
I can't comment on mac compatibility, since I don't have one; but newer macs support the standard 3.5mm smartphone headset this is used for without any adapters, so it's kind of pointless.
This should also help with an occasional glitch I get plugging my headset into some things (can't think of specifics right now) where the sound is messed up, like the volume of everything is off. Basically makes them work as a normal pair of headphones.
As an added bonus, the plastic clamshell in the package (the white area in the second picture of the product) is small and reclosable, so it makes a handy case to carry this around in. A bit tricky to get the cables arranged back, but not bad for being a free bonus.
Woodees should have colored them separately, or added different raised bands on the pins or even embossed/raised icons on the side; it is a big oversight on their part. And that's the only reason I am giving a 3 start for this instead of a 5.
On the positive side, it is very well made (will probably last for another 2 notebook cycles for me), and good quality audio/signals.
Plug and play.
The bigger concern is how incredibly thin the wires are. While this is the most 'professional' looking headset to mic/phones splitter I could find (no garish, lego-y pink/green connectors), its wires are so thin I'm afraid to use this with any sort of portable device where the wires could have wear and tear.
The connectors are quite nice and it works on my Windows machines (mostly laptops), but it doesn't work on my iMacs and I fear for the longevity of this device on portables due to the incredibly thin wires. I'll be looking to purchase a different splitter, even if it means putting up with pink/green connectors.
