I think the abacus / soroban is a great teaching tool for kids learning math - I highly recommend starting your kids on it. Once mastered it makes the basic operations a cinch. I also believe it helps children to understand numbers better. Some schools in Japan still teach the Soroban and if you look them up on youtube, the math feats they can do are simply amazing.
This is a low-end product.
That said, it does work fine for someone of my low skill level. I'm not a fast abacus user, so the fact that the beads have a bit of drag on them is not really a problem for me. The abacus does look fairly nice, and the photos are a fair representation of its appearance. And the price is very low. For someone like me, who wants an abacus to play around with, it's probably a good choice. If you are an experienced abacus user, then you probably don't need me to tell you to look elsewhere for a good quality unit.

Pretty cheaply made but this wasn't an expensive abacus, so you get what you pay for.Published 14 months ago by Genny
Good abacus to learn on. Movement of the beads is good. Perfect for someone interested in learning how to use an abacus. I would not recommend this for use in competitions.Published 18 months ago by RCM
