Pride: The pride that Pereida-Rice puts into their product is immediately evident starting with the packaging. The bed came in three packages within which the wood boards were carefully and completely raped in stretch rap with the ends and other vulnerable edges protected with additional corrugated material. The actual structural design is, if anything, over engineered as compared to a “manufactured” bed frame and is totally solid. This is why I was attracted to this “handmade” company.
Materials: No particle board!! All of the wood used is solid wood of proportions that exceed the structural needs, yet do not detract from the products looks.
Engineering: The headboard came in two pieces, a lower and an upper piece. These two sections are joined together by bolting through three 1x1 boards pre-installed on each of the two headboard sections to three full length 1x1 boards that nest up to the pre-installed boards using 5/16” bolts. The resulting headboard is as solid as if it was made from a single piece of wood.
Communications: Before I ordered I made contact through Amazon’s email system with Tristan Pereida-Rice to get answers to questions that I had and after ordering I emailed and spoke to him a couple of additional times. The communications were excellent and friendly with Tristan even getting back to me on a Sunday.
Instructions: The instructions on how to assemble the bed came as a PDF email attachment. The instructions were well crafted, clear, understandable and augmented with cad drawings of the process that make it all very clear. The “big companies” out there could learn a lot about how to write and illustrate understandable instruction from these guys.
I am not prone to writing long detailed reviews, however in this case I am so impressed with the product and feel that the review requires this level of detail to help explain why.
The bed does sit lower than the old one without box springs but still is about couch height with a 12 inch mattress. One reason I got this platform bed was to get rid of box springs and man did I despise having to use a bed skirt previously. A handwritten thank you card was included and I had about 3 emails with the company with an initial question, order update and emailed instructions. All were responded to promptly. The wood has great character to it, plenty of wooden slats under the mattress for a solid feel and really is a great looking addition. This bed really does have rustic-urban contemporary look, so pleased.
I certainly agree with the what the other reviewer states about "pride". It's custom-made, and they definitely care that the customer is happy with their purchase. If you like the look of the bed from the pictures, go for it. It's built to last.
The bed shown in the attached image (with somewhat messy sheets), is king size, and with the Jacobean finish.
Even packaging was well done, with no styrene foam.
Don't think twice, buy it. You will not regret it!
