I suppose it was inevitable that sooner or later I would find a nifty Russian band or they would find me. Well, whichever it is, I need to tell you about Mechanical Poet. That's what I said, Mechanical Poet. The name may be odd but these guys play some great music. I nmy book, 2005 has not been a banner year, for music and the Woodland Pratters is one of the best if not the most interesting album I've heard up until now. What can I say I'm breathless. Imagination just exudes from these guys. I've got imagination all over me, I can't get the imagination off of me. Excuse my while I go take a shower.

Phew, that's better. Sorry but I can't stand to have so much imagination on me. It's stifling. I wish I could tell you more about these three guys, yes, there's only three but I can't even find out their last names (they must be doozies like Krompostanovichslav or something). Any way I did find a bio on their web site : [...] so If you`re interested you can look it up there..

MECHANICAL POET, Woodland Pratters

Yeah I know, they have a silly name but believe me when I tell you, the music is special. I suppose some mention of the CD booklet is in order, Ahaaa, I did find their last names, well two anyway, Lex Plotnikoff and Tom Tokmakoff, and there's Max, his last name is Samovar (not as bad as I suspected). My God, looking for their names was like looking for Waldo. Getting back to the booklet, it's done in cartoon strip form, you know, with the lyrics in clouds, and for you out their that don't read or speak Russian, the Mechanical Poets were thinking of you, because the lyrics are in English. Overall the album lasts 50 exciting minutes.

So what kind of music is Woodland Pratters? Well I find it incredibly hard to describe.

Yeah, after disappointmenting latest albums from leaders of prog metal (Dream Theater, Evergrey, Pain of Salvation, Amorphis, etc.) you would think prog metal is dying.

But listen to these Russian guys that made a great refreshing album free of stamps of the genre. They mixed many element in their musi from prog and sympho to trash, and the result is the album that beats latest opuses from Pain of Salvation or Evergrey!

I restarted my eMusic subscription and picked up Mechanical Poet. All I have to say about this album is that it's like listening to a poem in metal style. It's very catchy, and each song, as is previously stated, is by some sort of creature, which adds to the imagination and creativity.

If you like plays, this is theatrical like one, but in a very grungy, metal way.

I read a review in MetalManiacs magazine that this was a really good CD, so I bought it and must say I was dissapointed. Very lame lyrics and artwork, seemed like something out of a DIsney Movie. The music was overrated too, poor singing and cheesy keyboards.
