Top customer reviews
The cone is great and the best solution to our squirrel problem. Brilliant. (We would never harm the squirrels or any other living thing around us. This is an innocent, lovely, inoffensive, clever way to make life really hard for those ingenious rodents, while preserving food and granting peace of mind to our birds who’ve never been happier.)
The cone is very heavy, well-built, super easy to install. Our pole was a bit too thin for the cone, but I solved the problem by sticking a chopstick (yes, a leftover from one of our weekly Chinese take-out dinners) between the pole and the cone’s coupler (there are several more elegant ways of handling the issue, but I was lazy that day—and the chopstick is still holding the whole thing together, steady and unmoved).
I highly recommend this product and will buy one more for my second bird-feeder pole.
[p.s.: for the third photo, i retouched the cone to make the birds' poop on it disappear... out of courtesy to the public! :) the cone is black but that photo does not show the actual color of the product, that's my doing]
I think that the baffles are meant for feeders either sitting on or hanging from poles. All of my feeders are hanging from tree branches and chain, but they still work great. I set the baffle over my feeder, with it resting on the top dome and use an "S" hook to connect the feeder through the baffle hole to the chain (see my picture in the customer product photos).
The squirrels try over and over again, with their back paw on the chain to lean over and get to the feeder, but the diameter is wide enough that they just can't do it without letting go of the chain and falling back to the ground. For someone like me, who has been known to beat on my windows and yell profanities or go running through the yard attempting to scare them off the feeder, watching the squirrels try over and over to unsuccessfully get at the feeder has been a nice way to spend my Saturday morning on the porch with a cup of coffee. I feel like this review makes me sound nuts, but if you are shopping for this product you probably know exactly what I mean.
Bird seed isn't cheap, and the savings in a week or two of keeping those tree rodents out of your food more than pays for this baffle. I have two of them and will be back to buy two more in the near future.
