Pretty dismal attempt at suspense and horror. Acting bordering on the worst I've seen; same for pretty much every aspect of this film.
And speaking of dismal, the "beautiful" area they've chosen to camp in looks worse than Chernobyl. Whole film has a dry, ash-laden, sun-parched look which is the antithesis of inviting. Far from feeling cool, lush & relaxing, you can almost feel the ticks & chiggers crawling on you while you sweat and bat ineffectually at gnats & mosquitoes. Makes you want to pack up from this movie and go home.
Story involves married couple who take camping trip to re-spark marriage. Immediately one can see the futility: the couple appear to have all the intimacy, affection and chemistry of the newly-acquainted. Their cute silly "couple's banter" is awkward, astoundingly unfunny, and basically just makes you squirm to watch it. And it goes on WAY too long, some scenes pushing to the fringes of excruciating. As they stand gazing over the bleak, obviously fire-ravaged and desolate landscape, I momentarily felt an odd stab of pity when the guy proclaimed, "Best vacation EVER!"
Of course bliss is interrupted by deranged hunter camping nearby. Requisite rigors and chase scenes ensue. Towards the end, an attempt at a plot twist is attempted, but by now you are much too distracted by bad acting/dialog to much notice it.
I've seen worse, believe it or not. But not much.
