Your chime is tuned to the notes of the beloved melody of Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D, written near the end of the Baroque era. Once lost, this rediscovered masterpiece catches the ear and captures the heart with its graceful melody and stately tempo. Popular as a wedding processional, the melody has also gained popularity as holiday music, making our Pachelbel Canon Chime an ideal gift for weddings, holidays and any special occasion. This chime offers the unique combination of a second petit chime that hangs within the primary chime, offering both low and high tones to sing the sounds of hope, joy, love and promise. Over 30 years ago, Grammy award-winning musician and instrument designer Garry Kvistad created the first Woodstock Chime from an aluminum lawn chair he found in a landfill. Fascinated by the Scale of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can’t be played on a modern piano, Garry cut and tuned the lawn chair tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our best selling, musically-tuned windchimes. Garry and his wife Diane founded Woodstock Chimes in 1979 and still develop the chimes today. It remains a family-owned business in New York’s Hudson Valley.

A final "note"... Consider installing the chime where I did. I hung it under our patio umbrella. That way it's protected from the weather, but near us, so we can enjoy the Kvistad chime's incredible overtones.
We like this particular set of chimes because the family members we bought them for, are classical music aficionado's and the chimes are not too big or small. You must first understand the chimes are measured from the hanging ring at the top, to the bottom of the wind sail. This chime is appx. 32.5 inches long. That does not mean the tubes are 32.5" long. In the case of this chime, the large tubes range from about 14-18 inches.
My mother called me the day after Christmas to let me know a neighbor commented on how beautiful they sounded as she walked through the neighborhood. I find them pleasing because they are not too high pitched nor are they too low. I am pleased with the construction, quality and craftsmanship. The chimes came with a card detailing the musical notes as well as registration information and warranty.
The only complaint I have is the hanging ring is made of a hard plastic. I would like Woodstock to have used a rust-proof metal instead. I don't anticipate any issues... I just don't think the plastic is as functional as it is cheap nor does it match the quality of the rest of the chime.
I will definitely buy Woodstock chimes again for birthday, wedding, anniversary and all occasion gifts. They are easily half the price of some other chimes I have seen in specialty bird-food stores and sound equally beautiful.
Thanks for reading.
On the construction side, the supporting cords look to be reinforced for longer life. Most of my chimes have had the strings fail due to being outside in the weather. We are hoping for better string life with this quality piece. The chimes have isolators where the support string passes through (can't see that in the pictures) so there will be minimal wear at the most vulnerable spot. Nice....
When I first took them out of the package and held them in front of me I was afraid they might be too loud, but hanging just outside my bedroom they're perfect. Also, they were wrapped with so much care! Well-protected but still easy to get to when opening. I really hesitated to spend this much money on a wind chime, but I couldn't be happier that I did.
I was a bit surprised by the size. Without a background reference, the chimes appear larger than they actually are. Nevertheless - the stated dimensions are accurate and if you look at those, you will know exactly the size.
I very much enjoy sitting on my deck and listening to these. I would definitely buy from Woodstock again.
A suggestion if using reviews to decide between chimes, specifically Woodstock: use chimes.com to compare sounds. I was so thankful months ago to read another review that sent me in that direction. Each chime has a clip of their sound, and provide suggestions for chimes that sound nicely with others. It also gives visual explanation of dimensions. Many are confused because length is typically measured from the top of the hanger to the bottom of the windcatcher and NOT just the chime tubes. But for price, Amazon seems to be the best!
I love this chime and would highly recommend it to those who appreciate medium to deep tones!
