Useful for those new to MS WORD-- Invaluable to "Old Pros"

Even though Word 2007 has been out for quite a few years and I have used it for most of those years, I found myself needing this manual to figure out why something suddenly seemed to stop working. My first review still applies.

This is the book for "old pros" and newbies alike. It includes all the information the newcomers need, written clearly, with good screen shot illustrations. It has "Nostalgia Corners" for those who have worked their way through numerous past versions. We don't want to have to plow through explanations of things we already know. This points out things that are no longer the same, and ways to get around that if you really feel you have to.

Another thing that should help all users, at least in the Kindle version, is the index. It is very detailed and has very direct links. I found converting documents from older versions of Word and even Open Office worked smoothly, when I simply looked problems up in the index. And new document development worked equally smoothly.

In brief, this is the book I was looking for.

If you use Microsoft Word, you NEED this book!

I've used Microsoft Office software for some time, but realized I am not able to use the program's features as well as I would like to. I didn't really want to take the time (or spend the money) to take a course on this program, so when I found this book on Amazon, I thought I would give it a try. So far I REALLY LIKE IT! It's set up so you can go directly to the section that shows you how to do a specific task and let me tell you it takes you step by step through the task with ease! Well written, easy to follow and great diagrams of what you see on the computer screen. If you want to unlock the features of Word 2007, you NEED this book! And they offer a book for most all of the Microsoft Office programs (I ordered one for Excel and PowerPoint as well, and love them all). Well worth the money and a great tool to have near your computer!

I am a smart person, but I really knew very little about Word when I started writing my thesis. I'm not sure I would have finished without this book! The book helped me with every part of the document - using sections to format various pages differently, creating an automatically updated, professional table of contents, working with tables, outlining, using headers, using & modifying styles, and keyboard shortcuts. It also instructs on helpful items such running macros and customization. I highly recommend the book for anyone needing to use Word for anything more than creating basic documents.

There's nothing in this book that has been any help to me whatsoever, Word is a program notorious for taking control away from the user and putting it in the hands of its algorithms. This book says "hey, its so eaaasy! Everything is automatic." What people need is to know how to do what THEY want to do, not what Microsoft wants them to do. Instead of help, we've got the QVC of guidebooks. Feh.

I have been using WORD sicne Microsoft first published and I still don't know how to get all that the software has to offer. I kept hearing about people doing this or that with WORD and I had no odea what they were talking about until I got this easy to read and easy to understand book on WORD 2007. Now it won't match up with earlier editions of WORD such as 1997 so don't waste your money or time. It is for WORD 2007. There are more than likely other editions for other editions of the software.
This book shows you how to get the full use out of your software.

I Miss My Beads

When I write training programs, they require many sections, columns, lines and headers, but I need them in different places rather than throughout. Trying to keep them out of one section and in another, turns out to be a real brainteaser. While I know how to type, I know next to nothing about computers, whether it is a search engine or mother board I am a moron, and the only computer I had for years had beads on it.

So, after failing to find "Microsoft Office Word 2007 for Complete and Utter Morons," I settled for "Microsoft Word 2007 for Dummies." This book offers a thorough explanation of anything you need to know about "2007." Illustrations frequently complement the instruction. The author adds some humor that is characteristic of the dummy series but it is subtle and doesn't dominate the instruction, most of the time. There is a detailed index for readers who wish to learn a specific function immediately. Little icons on the side of the page offer suggestions to warn you of technical information or a prompt to remember something, or other tips.

I expect to master Word 2007 just about the time that it will be replaced, or I retire. I hope it will be the latter.

I miss my beads.

This book is a good resource for those of us new to word processing programs. It explains the basics in detail. It is organized in such a way that it is easy to find the topics you are looking for. I would like a few more pictures and diagrams.
I usually like books written by this author - Dan Gookin.
