Top Customer Reviews
As is true of many of the volumes in the Word Biblical Commentary series, Wenham's first volume on Genesis (a second volume covers chapters 16-50), will be of greatest benefit for someone who has a working knowledge of Hebrew. However, the most technical matters are set apart in notes and in the sections titled "Form/Structure/Setting." The sections that provide the verse-by-verse commentary are clearly written and accessible to the layperson, with any Hebrew in these sections being accompanied by an English translation. Where multiple interpretations of the meaning and/or significance of a passage are available, Wenham discusses these in some detail and carefully weighs the pros and cons of the different interpretations.
No commentary is easy reading from start to finish, but for the serious reader of Genesis, this book is absolutely excellent. Recommended.
