Marcus points out in the preamble, and rightly so, that two of the most serious errors any author can make with their book's formatting is a lousy table of contents and grainy images. Both are indicative of a poor product and will rapidly lose points for the book and author's popularity.

The problem lies with the fact that Word is probably the most common author writing program and everyone and their brother has a list of do's and don'ts which will make anybody's head spin. Authors want to write. Not become software aficionados who can make Word perform formatting gymnastics.

Hence, why you need Marcus' book. We authors don't publish books every day, so when it comes time to format again, I for one have to re-learn the process. Frustrating to say the least. Now it's easy. Marcus gives you a simple step-by-step method which only takes a few minutes to refresh yourself and get the job done, and done well. There are a couple of free programs you'll need to download, but that too is very easy.

The next main part of the book discusses the use and type of images in your books. Something to remember is that without this knowledge, it can hit your pocketbook if you're selling at the 70% royalty level, as Amazon charges a delivery free of about $0.15/MB. So if you're using a lot of high resolution, large file images, you're going to lose on royalty payments. Many authors don't even know this.

However, as it's said, a picture is worth a thousand words and there is no doubt readers really like them. So do them, but do it smartly and this is what Marcus teaches you to do.

Do yourself a favor and get this book..make yours look great and spend more time writing..not being a coding geek.

While I found this somewhat less helpful than some of Eigh's other works, because I was already aware of a lot of how to force WORD to do what I want it to, it's still a necessary lesson for self-publishing authors and other book formatters. You've got to learn how to do this stuff somewhere or you'll waste time and come out with an inferior product. I found the double-formatting idea intriguing, too, and you'll learn the correct applications to use to accomplish it. As usual, Eigh has come up with a unique idea, his trademark in these little self-help-publishing books.

I like the way you use the Unicode example of the Confucius quote right off the bat. There were sections that were a bit hard to follow but overall, the content is an excellent reference to get started. I do favor the Mac to do my creative work including writing so I'll have to do more research in regards to the TOC conversion.

I am only half way through this book, but so far it really is helping me understand the big picture & terms used in publishing an ebook. Other books mostly confused me - I am not a programmer - This I understand. Will recommend to anyone wanting to publish their book. Thanks
