I won't rehash the plot and blurb for you here, because there's plenty of reviews that will do that, what I will say is how this book made me feel. As both a reader and a writer the book world can be a frustrating one. So HUGE props to Amalie for telling it how it is out there.
No one is safe in this book, bloggers, writers, fans. She took a theme, which isn't often written about and wrapped a story around it, and she could have left it there, but she didn't. She was braver - and funnier than that. She dove face first into the publishing dramas and pitfalls and opened that crazy can of worms right up.
She twisted every angle, and exposed every ugly secret that there is to tell, and it turned out to be one of the funniest and most brilliant books I've read in a long time because of it.

The main characters had such a great connection, their back and forth banter had me in stitches at times and yet when things began to heat up between them...damn! Wait, no that doesn't correctly express how it was, let me try that again. I meant DAYUuuuuuuUM!
That's not to say that the MC's and the wicked funny plot are the only thing that's good about this, because it isn't. Every character in the book is so well thought out and planned that their friendships were totally real to me, and that's what makes them all so lovable. The friendship and banter between them all. The catchy little one-liners. The sexy romance. The angst. The drama. Did i mention this was hilarious?

Loved this book, and can't wait to see what Amalie Silver comes up with next. This is an author to watch.

Once in a while I buy a book (not getting it through my blog to read) and I am super happy I did. I heard about Word Play, through a friend and decided to read it one slow weekend. This has to be one of the bests reads I have had all summer long.

Michael Rourke is a writer. After writing other books, and not becoming a successful by writing mystery, he turns to what is hot right now. Writing erotica. But Michael doesn't write under his own name, but rather a pen name, Christoph Strong. This way no one knows it is him. Michael is not thrilled with his new writing endeavors, but it is paying the bills. Actually, he is making a killing! So now his publisher wants his to do book signing. The only problem with that, is that people might found out who he really is. But his books are so in demand, they need him out there.

At a book convention "Christoph" meets 'Monica Singer'. She is an infamous blogger that had previously trashed his work. While he is peeved at her review, he finds himself attracted to the women behind it. The only problem is that she is not Monica, she is Lauren. No spoilers here, but Lauren is more than he thinks she is.

The attraction and fling between Michael/Christop and Monica/Lauren is hot and at the same time comical. These two have a connection, but it seems it is not destined for anything big because these two are using huge secrets!
This book was a behind the scenes look at the book world. Writes, publishes, bloggers etc. I found it hysterically funny and sweet at the same time. Amalie Silver put her heart and soul into this book. She came out with Faceplace, Greatreads, Twatter, Amazonia, and my favorite, Instaguru. You know exactly what she was talking about with a spin on the names.

Michael Roarke's career as a mystery writer wasn't going as well as he hoped. In order to be able to pay his bills he wrote an erotica novel under the name Christian Strong. It looks like that went way better than expected, since he's now a bestseller. Though honestly, he feels a bit ashamed for writing smut, but as long as nobody knows who he really is, he doesn't care.

That is about to change though. On his way to a book signing someone discovers his pictures and links it with Christian Strong. The mayhem that follow, well nobody expected that. Suddenly he needs security and women are throwing their panties at him. He's become the Justin Timberlake of the book world. Michael really doesn't like it. At first he goes along with it, but it's just not his thing.

When he meets Monica he lets his fake facade fall and makes a real connection. Though things are not quite what they seem with her. That's about all I can say about the plot. This one is definitely way more fun to discover yourself.

The story is told from a dual point of view, so while the characters are trying to figure out what's going on, you get to be all knowing. Michael and Monica are great characters. The idea of a man writing erotica was very refreshing. I know there are very little men who do that and I can imagine a lot of women would go extreme fan girl on such a guy, certainly if he's good looking.

The whole setup of this story was actually very refreshing and unique. There was plenty of humor and interesting twists. All the characters were very likable and I was jealous of Monica in the more steamy scenes. This is one of those books I enjoyed way more than expected. I really liked how it involved authors and book bloggers. There were these little blog snippets that were hilarious and so recognizable. Amalie Silver has done an amazing job with this story and I'll definitely be reading more from her.
