Let's be honest. Some of us are never going to host our own blog on our own Web server. It is pretty complicated and I personally would be very frustrated trying to figure it all out. Well with that said, I only needed to read the first five chapters of this book. The rest of the book is for people who are hosting their own blog. Trust me when I say that half this book will boggle your brain unless you build websites for a living.

I had actually already started blogging when I ordered this book so I'd pretty much found my way around and had a few blog posts. Still I had no idea there was so much more to learn. For those new to WordPress this book takes you through all the basics of setting up a blog. It really is a step-by-step process. In fact I found that it is best to read this book while sitting at the computer so you can see exactly what the author is talking about.

While I read half of this book once, I will read parts of it again and again until I figure everything out. I still haven't organized my posts into categories or added tags that could help search engines find my posts more easily. The beauty of this book is that you can really go at your own pace.

Since WordPress is the most popular blogging platform around I'd highly recommend that you read this book as soon as possible. It will give you all the basics to get blogging fast. Sure, you can figure out a lot of stuff on your own but I found this book told me some things I hadn't considered. Things like how to not get a lot of spam comments (who needs more when you are already getting spam in email).

So to be honest I'm only reviewing half this book. I completely skipped over all the information on how to host your own blog. But if that is what you need then this book will guide you through that process too.

I bought this book after I had been blogging on a WordPress platform for over six months. While impressed with the obvious depth of knowledge of the author and how well the book seems to be organized... I did not find it helped me much at all. I would look up the exact issue I wanted to address, but the instructions and what my WordPress Dashboard offered either did not mesh or I lacked a significant amount of expertise to put the information to good use.

I admit, technology isn't my thing. That's why I bought this book. Unfortunately I was unable to benefit from it. However, if you are a fairly educated 'dummy' this could be the book for you. Great stuff, but not for true novices.

I have (slowly) been building a website for the purpose of advocating for more action worldwide to minimize fire-related deaths in dwellings. Having started with a CMS (content management) application installed by my webhosting company and ending up with much (newbie-caused, not blaming anyone else) frustration, I investigated WordPress and found that it is a Blogging-CMS package that can be a powerful tool for setting up a website. I bought two books from Amazon about WordPress. Both are excellent, the other being "Building a WordPress Blog People Want to Read."
"WordPress for Dummies" is an excellent and thorough introduction to the power of WordPress. It covers the use of WordPress in several settings, including but not limited to: 1) the WordPress.com setup and 2) a situation like mine, where WordPress is provided by a webhosting site. In both cases, the book provides excellent coverage of the software's dashboard, organizing a blog, dealing with allowing for both comments and new articles from others (if you desire), adding third-party articles, etc.
The book covers much more than I have listed above, but for people like me who are new to setting up software for blog/website building, "WordPress for Dummies" (Second Edition) is simply an excellent tool which I strongly recommend.

I am an experienced developer and system administrator. I used this book early this summer to train my stafff and then to quickly set up a WordPress blog on our intranet. Now I am using it to train members of a committee of professionals. The committee is considering using WordPress to track committee discussions. It was one of five books that I bought on blogs, and this is the book I grab most frequently. Author Lisa Sabin-Wilson is an experienced blog designer and web designer and has a pleasant, professional writing style.

I presume all of the written content is fine. At ;least I can read it easily with my Kindle 2My problem is with the tables, graphs, and charts. I can't see them well enough to read them. Some are just barely adequate, but most is useless. That really negates the benefits of having a Kindle version. I will request a refund today - unless someone can explain how I can make the graphics show up more clearly.

Great book for getting the beginner started. I like the Dummies books because they make any new subject, a little easier to understand. You don't have to read every chapter word for word, just the parts that interest you or are giving you trouble. Wordpress for Dummies is no different. It's easy to understand, and the author doesn't assume you have any background in Wordpress. I'm a fan! If you're a beginner, buy this book.

Overall, a good guide that is well structured and helpful. This does not mean, however, that some additional explanations defining all terms and their usage for the benefit of the truly technologically challenged readers would not be even more helpful. If the author included some before and after illustrations and how implementation of the topic at hand would look and work after it is finished, the work would gain even greater reviews and probably result in increased sales. Realizing that even the most basic of terms for people in the know are truly puzzling for those of us who are not into the enlightened lingo of geeks and techys would make this guide the essential reference that should be on everyone's work desk.

3.0 out of 5 stars WordPress for Dummies, but not this one

Although author Lisa Sabin-Wilson warned readers in advance that a certain knowledge of computers was required, I thought it still too technical. Her over enthusiasm for WordPress became tiresome quickly as did her over use of exclamation marks! I still have not found out the answer to the specific question for which I bought the book, how to replace a document within a website while leaving the link as it stands, but admittedly I am only on Chapter 8. Still on Chapter 8,that is, because it is not exactly a riviting read. I suppose making such a book riviting is asking a lot!

Although Wordpress is an intuitive application, Lisa Sabin-Wilson ensures that every type of user is catered for. If you are a novice or an expert this book will guide and enhance your knowledge. Easy to read and structured well, it can help you produce a blog in next to no time. What it can't do is turn your content into Pulitzer prize winning text, but it can make what is there be presented to its best effect.

Awful awful book. I bought this to help me with my blog..not unusually. As a complete beginner I thought it would literally be a how to guide. Not so...written for people who already know and understand Blog/wordpress language.
I would not recommend this. Rather go and do a workshop and get all your questions answered there.
