Investigator Cage Foster is called to the scene of an accident involving a teenager. Sandy Brown is found dead, the victim of a dirt bike accident. Cage knows that the scene of a dead child is always difficult to examine, but it is especially harder for him this time because he is awaiting the arrival of his newborn daughter. He cannot help but think how he would feel if it was his daughter. When, after gathering clues and examining the scene, he realizes that this is more than a tragic accident. It looks like it is a deliberate hit and run. Who would want to see the teenager dead?
As Cage begins his investigation he realizes that the answer to that question is more people than he could have ever imagined. Sandy’s family life is not picture perfect and he cannot rule out either of her parents. She has recently been fired from her job and he does not know if the reason for the firing could also be a motive for murder. She also has a secret that only a few people know about, could this secret have led to her death?
The mystery is carried out throughout the whole book and the suspense just continues to build. There are many twists and turns and at times I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author turned my theory upside down. I really like when that happens and I enjoy being surprised.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy quick read. The characters are well developed and realistic. I thought that Cage was a very competent and thorough investigator and I would like him to be involved if I ever had a need for investigating. He also was very considerate of the people involved in the investigation and tried to handle things as delicately as possible. A lot of the time the police and investigators are presented in a way that make them seem mean, cruel or incompetent. It was refreshing to see them presented in a more positive light.
Although this book is short, less than one hundred pages, I feel that it is a complete book. The mystery is well plotted and developed and I did not feel like anything is incomplete. I would have liked to learn more about Cage and his wife and spend more time with them as a family but I am hoping that I can learn more about them in the books written prior to this one, which I definitely plan on reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a well crafted mystery suspense.

Criminal Investigator Cage Foster is called to an accident scene that looks suspiciously like the victim might have had some help getting killed. His fiancée, Dani, is close to term with a complicated pregnancy so he's stretched pretty thin.
This case was tragic because the victim was a teenager. The investigation proceeded rapidly as Cage has become adept at sifting through clues and using the resources around him. However, even he was caught off guard by a serious twist near the end. And, Dani's pregnancy comes to a close!
As with the other stories in the series, this one is skillfully crafted. The procedural is well done, the characterizations set up deftly and the mystery really interesting. I'm loving the experience of settling in to a story with characters I've come to like intensely, deducing the case and finishing in a couple of hours. And, it manages to address some serious social issues along the way. Well done.

Stacy once again weaves her magic with words and brings this characters to life as as he works to put the pieces together and bring justice for the young victim and balance his work and personal life.
Although this is supposedly the last in the series, I certainly hope he is revived at a later date. He is the type of character I would want investigating my situation if I were murdered or harmed.
Green writes great characters, twisted and deviant crimes and is a great storyteller. Her writing is easily read, satisfying and a bit disturbing. I would encourage anyone who loves mystery/suspense to read her books!
As Cage and Dani are waiting for the birth of their baby, Cage is called away to the scene of a tragic death of a teenage girl. Did she accidentally lose control or did someone hit her? As Cage digs into the story further to find out the truth, who will he find as his lead suspect?
I hope Ms. Green will continue with the Delta Detectives Series. They are an easy read, but full of twists and turns that keep the reader interested in the books.
